CNN —As Global Tiger Day rolls around, there’s good news for the big cats in Thailand. Thailand Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation/WCS ThailandThe DNP began working with WCS to “build and strengthen site-based protection,” says Jornburom. Thailand Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation/WCS ThailandA ‘conservation-dependent species’While Thailand’s success story offers hope, the outlook across the region is not so optimistic. This has left small, isolated tiger populations in Myanmar, Indonesian Sumatra, and peninsular Malaysia — the latter of which is worrying conservationists after a recent spate of tiger deaths. WEFCOM currently boasts most of the country’s tiger population, and has the potential to support up to 2,000 tigers, according to WCS.

Hotels are reducing how much food they waste at their breakfast buffets by installing AI-powered cameras above their kitchen trash cans. Of this, nearly 30% was wasted in the food service sector. Food loss in the supply chain and food waste generate almost five times the total greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector, per the UNEP. Reducing food waste can boost a company's eco credentials — and cut costs. Winnow's clients include hotels, cruise lines, universities, and food service companies that provide professional catering services.

“This image is the last image of the Malayan tiger — or it’s the first image of the return of the Malayan tiger,” he says. ‘A million-dollar shot’Regular camera traps — like the hundreds already used by the park’s scientists, researchers and conservationists — are typically the size of a large smartphone and activated by broad-range motion sensors. Rondeau's high-resolution camera traps included a DSLR camera in a waterproof casing. Emmanuel Rondeau, wildlife photographerBut there’s still more work to be done. As a keystone species, tigers are essential to a healthy ecosystem – and without them, the 130-million-year-old rainforests around the Belum-Temengor complex could be threatened, too.

New networks by Dish and Japan's Rakuten use Open RAN. "All of the new equipment that we are going to be putting out will be Open RAN capable," Chris Sambar, president of AT&T Network, told Reuters. Winning the Open RAN deal will make Ericsson the largest supplier to AT&T as it slowly takes over Nokia's share, the company said. AT&T will still have contracts which other Open RAN vendors outside this deal. AT&T expects fully integrated Open RAN sites operating in coordination with Ericsson and Fujitsu, starting in 2024.

A gamer plays a GeForce NOW game inside a pop-up converted phone box powered by 5G. Photo: Anthony Devlin/Zuma PressNetwork carriers, looking to build new business around 5G, are exploring nascent technology that would allow them to better and more quickly deliver certain apps and services on their network—but this technology, known as network slicing, could potentially run afoul of net-neutrality regulations. In the current model, all data traffic from phones is typically funneled through the same network. Carriers are able to prioritize the voice calls that they handle on that network, but they rarely have visibility into what else users are doing through other apps. In other words, someone using a videoconferencing telehealth app has no priority over someone scrolling social media or streaming video—despite the fact that faster delivery is much more critical for that service, said Chris Sambar , head of network at AT&T .

Tiny Japanese trucks that cost as little as $5,000 are winning over some Americans. It's not just tiny homes taking America by storm – now tiny trucks made in Japan are becoming increasingly popular too. The tiny trucks are a common sight on Japanese roads, but they've also won over some Americans wanting a versatile, compact – and cheap – vehicle. The cheapest Kei truck sold by Japan Car Direct is about $5,000, with shipping costs accounting for much of that sum. Japan Car Direct and its competitors will walk customers through the import process, which requires several forms to be completed.

The company makes 3D-printed footwear. Footwear manufacturing is inherently wasteful and time consuming. Hilos' technology works like this: When a customer purchases a shoe, Hilos makes another one available in a matter of days. Hilos makes soles from a type of plastic, technically TPU, or thermoplastic polyurethane, that is made from 80% recycled material. "If you started with the premise of, 'I want to make a new footwear company,' how would you do it?
