CNN has reached out to Blue Origin for comment. Blue OriginFriday’s mission was Blue Origin’s ninth human spaceflight on the rocket used for space tourism. Upon landing safely at Blue Origin’s launch site in West Texas, Calandrelli compared seeing Earth from space for the first time to motherhood. Calandrelli said she was crying on the flight home from the mission because of the online reaction and texting her “space sisters” for advice. As she was getting off the flight, Calandrelli said the Southwest flight attendant recognized her and whispered, “don’t let them dull your shine.”“I felt an immediate sense of camaraderie with her, with all women,” Calandrelli said.

The University of Texas System announced Wednesday it will expand its free tuition program for lower-income families to include all families making $100,000 or less a year. The free tuition for undergraduate students will begin in the fall of 2025 and will cover tuition and fees. “The combination of these actions today will ensure that average student debt at UT academic institutions continues to decline. UT System Chancellor James B. Milliken said in a statement: “Across UT institutions, enrollment is growing, and student debt is declining, indicating success in both access and affordability. Further, families with an income below $100,000 will have tuition as well as housing, dining fees and allowances for books and personal expenses covered.

CNN —A group of scientists has devised a plan to safeguard Earth’s species in a cryogenic biorepository on the moon. In order to reach the required temperatures on earth, a supply of liquid nitrogen, electricity and human staff are required. To reduce this risk, Hagedorn and the team thought about how cryopreservation could be achieved passively, which is impossible on Earth, and alighted on the moon. “We aren’t saying what if the Earth fails – if the Earth is biologically destroyed this biorepository won’t matter,” Hagedorn said in the statement. Sally Keith, a senior lecturer in Marine Biology at Lancaster University, who was not involved in the research, had similar concerns.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology said on Monday that it would no longer require candidates applying for faculty positions to write diversity statements, which have been denounced by conservatives and free-speech advocates as forcing a kind of ideological conformity. In their statements, generally a page-long, candidates were required to explain how they would enhance the university’s commitment to diversity. Such statements have become enshrined in faculty hiring at many elite public and private universities, as well as in corporate life. Academics have defended them as necessary in judging whether a faculty member can reach out to an increasingly diverse student body. In announcing the change, M.I.T.’s president, Sally Kornbluth, said diversity statements constituted a form of compelled speech that do not work.

From left, Claudine Gay, president of Harvard University; M. When Nemat Shafik, the president of Columbia University, was asked to appear before Congress to testify about antisemitism on college campuses in December, she cited a scheduling conflict and said she could not attend. The president of the University of Pennsylvania, M. Elizabeth Magill, resigned four days after her appearance at the hearing, where she delivered evasive answers about campus antisemitism. Harvard’s president, Claudine Gay, similarly gave vague responses and faced fierce backlash for weeks up to her resignation in January. Lawyers who prepare clients to testify before Congress said that while there are risks to not appearing, it is always an option.

Bill Ackman, the billionaire hedge fund manager, is an annoying and persistent contrarian. Whether you think Mr. Ackman is a billionaire blowhard or a courageous iconoclast, he is part of a paradigm shift in social media, where rich people are increasingly able to convert financial capital into social capital. He’s hardly even the first or most outrageous beneficiary of this unfortunate reality: That distinction probably belongs to his fellow billionaires Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who, like Mr. Ackman, have also discovered that unfiltered, limitless social media platforms are heaven for those with unconventional opinions and God complexes. But why do wealthy people like Mr. Ackman make such a fuss on X, posting lengthy diatribe after lengthy diatribe? He wants to reach the public, a public that doesn’t enjoy the same freedoms on social media that he does.

In the first weeks of the war between Israel and Hamas, Nancy Andrews read about American college presidents under fire and something nagged at her. Why, she wondered, did it seem like so many of those presidents were women? The vast majority — 80 percent — were against universities led by women, even though just 30 percent of colleges and universities nationwide have female presidents. Of the seven complaints filed in the weeks after the war began, all were seeking investigations of schools led by women. “Four women presidents, all new in their roles, far too new to have shaped the culture on their campuses, called before Congress?

BOSTON (AP) — Harvard University has shed fresh light on the ongoing investigation into plagiarism accusations against former president Claudine Gay, including that an independent body recommended a broader review after substantiating some of the complaints. In a letter Friday to a congressional committee, Harvard said it learned of the plagiarism allegations against its first Black female president on Oct. 24 from a New York Post reporter. The school reached out to several authors whom Gay is accused of plagiarizing and none objected to her language, it said. Harvard then appointed the independent body, which focused on two of Gay's articles published in 2012 and 2017. The House committee announced days later that it would investigate the policies and disciplinary procedures at Harvard, MIT and Penn.
