The NBA logo is seen outside an NBA store in New York on July 8, 2024. Under the terms of the deal, Nike will be the leagues' global outfitting, merchandising, marketing and content partner until 2037. As the largest athletic apparel company in the world, Nike has long been a favorite among professional sports leagues and their athletes. Despite Nike's recent stumbles, the NBA told CNBC it has no concerns about continuing its partnership with the apparel company. Nike has not faced significant criticism for its basketball uniforms.

All four drugs are in a class of wildly popular weight loss drugs known as GLP-1s. In the United Kingdom, authorities last year seized hundreds of counterfeit Ozempic pens — insulin pens that had been relabeled as Ozempic. Counterfeit weight loss drugs have serious health risks, according to the pharmaceutical companies and federal officials. Counterfeiters are already trying to cash in on a weight loss drug that the company hasn't even put on the market yet: retatrutide. But it's also one of the epicenters of the lucrative counterfeit drug trade, according to U.S. authorities who track counterfeit drugs.

New York CNN —The deal reached Thursday evening that ended a strike by 50,000 portworkers has a lot of winners and few if any losers. But that wage deal stopped what could have become the most disruptive US strike in decades had it lasted weeks or months. The strike halted the flow of imports and exports across dozens of ports, what could have been a massive blow had the strike continued. Not that this was the deal that the the United States Maritime Alliance, the group that negotiates on behalf of ship lines, terminal operators and ports, wanted. But it was the one they could settle for after the Biden administration made clear it wasn’t going to intervene.

New York went 6-7 against the Phillies during the regular season and finished six games behind them in the division standings. CNN —Pete Alonso hammered a historic, go-ahead, three-run home run in the ninth inning to power the New York Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in their winner-take-all Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series. With free agency looming, it could have been the final act of his Mets career – but the possible last dance continues. Benny Sieu/USA Today Sports/ReutersAfter the Mets came from behind to win 8-4 in Game 1, the Brewers leveled the series with a 5-3 victory Wednesday. The stunning victory over the Brewers marks the first time that the team has advanced in the postseason since 2015. “There was no way this season was going to end without something happening in that ninth inning,” he added.

More than halfway through the third quarter, many of the biggest commodity ETFs in the United States are in sizable holes. Kathy Kriskey, senior commodities ETF strategist at Invesco, said that oil supply is actually tight at the moment. The commodities slump could be partially due to mechanical factors in the market, such as low trading volumes combined with large commodity trading advisors betting against the sector, Kriskey said. "The price of corn has taken almost three full years from those 2022 spike highs to get back down. And oil, one of the biggest weights in commodity indexes, could see stepped up supply in coming months.

Khan recently told CNBC that its AI tool will expand from 65,000 students to one million students next year. It also recently announced that Microsoft is paying so that AI can be offered to teachers across the U.S. free of charge. In fact, teachers were the only demographic polled where year-over-year favorability declined, though a majority (59%) still have a positive view of AI chatbots. Minority groups are adopting AI for education at higher rates, including the teachers and parents who are using AI to help children. Black and Hispanic K-12 students and undergraduates were more likely to use AI for school.

“Our research approach is community science,” Lohi, who was corresponding author on the study, told CNN. Researchers dubbed the cats' unusual coat coloring as salmiak, or “salty licorice,” after a popular Finnish candy. Now that salty licorice cats are officially a thing, could they become the next designer breed? “It is possible that breeders will choose to develop a population of salty licorice cats,” Lohi said. “However, the health of the salty licorice cats should be followed in more detail to confirm the absence of any color-related health issues.” Tailored genetic testing could be used to ensure the cats are bred without passing on dangerous genes.

Microsoft is partnering with tutoring organization Khan Academy to provide a generative AI assistant to all teachers in the U.S. for free. Khanmigo for Teachers, which helps teachers prepare lessons for class, is free to all educators in the U.S. as of Tuesday, with the financial support of Microsoft. Microsoft and Khan Academy are also planning to provide more AI-powered math tutoring to students through a new open-source small language model from Microsoft's Phi-3 AI technology. The relationship between the tech giant and education nonprofit will also feed back into Microsoft's Copilot AI, with more Khan Academy content added, and Khan content brought into Microsoft Teams for Education, an existing free communication app for students and teachers. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently recommended Khan's new book on AI in education.

His latest recommendation comes from the world of artificial intelligence — specifically, how the fast-advancing technology might improve the quality of education students receive around the world. The Microsoft co-founder recently took to social media to tout "Brave New Words: How AI Will Revolutionize Education (And Why That's a Good Thing)," which published last week. The book was written by Sal Khan, the founder and CEO of education nonprofit Khan Academy — which is developing an experimental AI chatbot tutor called Khanmigo. "If you're passionate about education, you need to read this book," Gates wrote on social media platform X. AI tutoring could help "close the education gap" with direct help for low-income students even in developing countries, Gates noted last year on his "Unconfuse Me" podcast, in an episode featuring Khan.

Fast-food franchisees in California fear diners will flock to Chili's and Applebee's to avoid price hikes. As a result, the price gap between fast-food and casual dining restaurants could narrow. This could potentially cause the price difference between fast-food and casual dining restaurants to shrink. Fast-food restaurants in California have been hiking prices to offset the wage, which is 25% above the state's general minimum wage. "We're gonna start to compete with them," Ghai said, speaking about the casual dining restaurants.

"It's already hard to find dishwashers, which is a horrible job for minimum wage," Vitalie continued. Restaurant margins 'are so small to begin with'The new minimum wage compounds what Vitalie described as years of difficulties for independent restaurants in California. "I Am...Sasha Fierce""I Am...Sasha Fierce" was released in 2008. Columbia RecordsMetacritic score: 62/100What critics said: "The album's songs are divided into two parts, ballads of a purported personal nature on the first disc and more aggressive club tracks attributed to the singer's newly christened doppelganger on the second. "It's a momentum-murdering formula that makes for not only a disjointed listening experience but, with the slow songs presented first, an incoherent narrative. This problem would be negligible, particularly in the age of iTunes, if it weren't clear that Beyoncé intended to make an Album and wants it to be consumed as such." — Sal Cinquemani, Slant Magazine

CNN —The allision between the container ship MV Dali and the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore on Tuesday has prompted numerous questions — not only about how this tragedy occurred, but also about our global shipping processes. This marked the start of a campaign by the Houthis, in support of Hamas in their attack on Israel, against global shipping transiting the Red Sea, Bab-el-Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden. Now, two years later, Baltimore is closed with remains of the Key Bridge athwart the main shipping channel. No one agency has oversight of or coordinates global shipping or ports in the US.
