Today, he is best associated with Tintagel Castle, where remains of a settlement dating back to the fifth century perch strikingly on an islet off the wild coast of Cornwall. Bettmann Archive/Getty ImagesFor Stoyle, it’s likely that the myth of Arthur has at least its roots in fact. This Arthur was played by Clive Owen in the 2004 film, “King Arthur,” alongside Keira Knightley as Guinevere. The sixth-century “Artognou stone," discovered in 1998, has linked Tintagel with King Arthur for some scholars, though others dismiss it. Of course, medieval history writers were fast and loose with the facts.

The lower capital gains tax rate was increased to 18% from 10%, while the higher rate climbed to 24% from 20%. Reeves said the increases will help bring in £2.5 billion ($3.2 billion) of additional capital to the public purses. Still, Reeves said the U.K. would still have the lowest capital gains tax rate of any European G7 economy. watch nowReeves announced that the rate of tax on carried interest, which is charged on capital gains, would rise to 32%, up from 28% currently. I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.

“The polls — public and private — are closer in this election than any I have ever seen,” said Dan Pfeiffer, a former aide to Barack Obama. Republican pollster Frank Luntz summed up the election with a single gif: A coin flip. The Trump era brought a return of uncertainty after most pollsters and prognosticators missed his 2016 victory, and 2024 is the narrowest polling election of all three of his runs. In 2020, the data correctly predicted Joe Biden’s victory, but Trump came much closer than many expected. “This race is remarkable for its closeness but also the insane stability of polls here in the closing weeks,” said Republican pollster Kristen Soltis Anderson.

The questionnaires, known as client intake forms, give rare insight into the practices of Sage and other crisis pregnancy centers and how they use ambiguous language to describe their services. These practices are typical for crisis pregnancy centers across the country, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The tactics used at crisis pregnancy centers often create delays that leave women unable to access abortions, forcing them to continue their pregnancies. Most crisis pregnancy centers in the United States are affiliated with either Heartbeat International or Care Net, another anti-abortion network. Like Idaho, North Carolina provides state funding to crisis pregnancy centers.

When Warren Buffett, the ultimate buy-and-hold investor, sells a stock, it often sends a negative signal about the underlying business and maybe even the entire industry. Bank of America sales Many top holdings in Berkshire Hathaway's equity portfolio are decades old — Buffett has held Coca-Cola shares since 1988 and American Express since 1991. Buffett said bank failures in 2008 during the Global Financial Crisis , and again in 2023, lessened confidence in the system, made worse by poor messaging by regulators and politicians. At the time, Buffett foresaw more bank failures down the road , but stuck with his Bank of America investment, partly because he personally negotiated the original deal and admired CEO Brian Moynihan.

But if you were generally tense, anxious, or fearful around your parent or caretaker, there's a chance you were raised by an eggshell parent. An eggshell parent is "often highly unpredictable, and unsafe in some way," she added. Sage shared a few signs you grew up with at least one eggshell parent, and what the long-term impacts of such a relationship can be. She added that eggshell parents often lack self-awareness of how their intense mood swings impact other people, especially their kids. Without that acknowledgment, children of eggshell parents might continue to believe that they "caused" their parents' outbursts, and that they're responsible for managing other people's emotions.

Read previewSean "Diddy" Combs will remain in jail after failing to convince the second federal judge in as many days to accept his $50 million bond package. Carter's decision may keep Combs confined in a notoriously violent and uncomfortable Brooklyn jail until he takes a plea or goes to trial. On Wednesday, Carter heard Comb's appeal on that decision — but agreed with Tarnofsky that Combs should remain behind bars. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have accused Combs of sex-trafficking, illegally transporting people for sex, and running a racketeering conspiracy. He said Combs could still try to use the employees at his many companies — possibly by using "coded messages" — to act on his behalf and potentially pressure witnesses.
