Sales of the Alzheimer's drug Leqembi may be slow initially due to logistical requirements but could pick up in 2024, analysts said after the groundbreaking treatment won approval in the U.S.Wall Street is chewing over the Food and Drug Administration's Thursday approval of Leqembi – a milestone in the treatment of the disease, even though the drug isn't a cure. Leqembi, from drugmakers Eisai and Biogen , is the first medicine proven to slow the progression of Alzheimer's in people at the early stages of the memory-robbing disease. NEW YORK, June 29 (Reuters) - A U.S. bankruptcy judge said Thursday that he would allow SVB Financial Group to sell its investment banking division, once the company has ensured that it is not releasing any liabilities related to the collapse of its Silicon Valley Bank unit. James Bromley, an attorney for SVB Financial, told Glenn that it would remove the liability releases from the deal by Friday. SVB Financial owned Silicon Valley Bank before it was seized by the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in March, and it is attempting to sell its remaining assets in bankruptcy. Glenn also criticized the FDIC during the court hearing, saying he would not allow the agency to block SVB Financial from getting information about its seizure of about $2 billion from SVB Financial' s bank accounts. Silicon Valley Bank's failure in March triggered the worst U.S. banking crisis in 15 years.

But the plunge in the deal pipeline prompted soul-searching and job-hopping among investment bankers accustomed to a feast. Barclays, which has struggled to retain bankers following a shake-up in the management of its investment banking division, has lost at least nine top technology bankers in recent weeks. Traditionally, smaller firms have been reluctant to offer investment bankers guaranteed compensation, in order to have more of their pay tied to performance. Alan Johnson, managing director of compensation consultancy Johnson Associates, said that first-year guarantees were common practice in the hiring of investment bankers, but second-year guarantee used to be rare. "You get paid a higher percentage of revenue than in a big bank, but you have to generate the revenue with perhaps less help," Johnson said.

It's not unusual for a company's stock price to soar — or sink — on news of a CEO shakeup. So, CEOs matter when picking stocks — and at the Club, these are the five things we look for when evaluating the leaders of our holdings. A stock's day-to-day and even month-to-month performance may not truly reflect how well a CEO is leading a company. Trust has value, and the stocks of companies led by reputable CEOs with competent management teams can trade at premium valuations. Sarepta surges after FDA panel backs Duchenne gene therapy
  + stars: | 2023-05-15 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
May 15 (Reuters) - Shares of Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT.O) soared 29% premarket on Monday as a backing by the U.S. health regulator's advisers increased the certainty of an accelerated approval for the company's gene therapy for a muscle-wasting genetic disorder. Eight of the 14 advisers to the Food and Drug Administration late Friday voted that the company had enough data to support an accelerated approval for its gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The vote came after FDA staff had earlier last week voiced concerns that the data from the company's mid-stage trial lacked "unambiguous evidence" about benefits from the therapy. TD Cowen analyst Ritu Baral expects an approval for the therapy, especially considering the FDA leadership's interest in promoting biomarker-based accelerated approvals for gene therapies. The FDA, often follows the advice of its expert advisers but is not obligated to do so, is slated to make a decision on accelerated approval by May 29.

In the trial, patients received donanemab until scans showed their brains were clear of those proteins, called beta-amyloid. Leqembi slowed the rate of cognitive decline in Alzheimer's patients by 27% over 18 months in a late-stage study.
