The US military deployed its Mid-Range Capability, or Typhon, missile system to the Philippines in April, and US military officials have expressed interest in deploying it in Japan. The MRC is a versatile new ground-based missile system that is capable of firing the Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) and Tomahawk Land Attack Missile System. The US military deployed the missile system overseas for the first time in April, putting it in the Philippines amid a joint exercise between the two militaries. AdvertisementWhile the new weapon wasn't fired during the exercise, its presence in the region irked China, which demanded the system be removed. Russia is said to have violated the Cold War-era arms-control pact by developing and fielding the SSC-8/9M729 missile system.

The impact of these deep strikes has been eye-opening for Europe and the US, opening "Pandora's box" for more of these capabilities, a nuclear weapons and arms control expert told Business Insider. The conventional weapons include SM-6, Tomahawk, and developmental hypersonic weapons, "which have significantly longer range than current land-based fires in Europe." "The war in Ukraine shows that long-range strikes are a key issue for the defense of Europe," Lecornu posted on X. "These countries knew that long-range weapons were important even before Russia invaded Ukraine, but Russia's war in Ukraine has opened Pandora's Box to more and more military steps," explained Hans Director of the Nuclear Information Project at the Federation of American Scientists. CNN —Italian soccer club Napoli has said that it “never intended to offend or make fun of” star player Victor Osimhen after coming under fire for posting – and then deleting – a video of the striker missing a penalty on TikTok. “To avoid any potential exploitation of the matter, SSC Napoli would like to explicitly state that the club never intended to offend or make fun of Victor Osimhen, who is an asset to the club,” Napoli said in Thursday’s statement. “Over the course of the summer Napoli rejected all offers to sign the striker – firm proof of the club’s appreciation of him. “A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted. The sand cat has been observed hunting the venomous Saharan horned viper, pictured here buried in the sand. This elusive nature is no doubt one of the reasons sand cats have been so under-reported, says Breton. The report notes that sand cats appear to travel greater distances than any other cat of their size, including black-footed cats and African wildcats. Sand cats in dangerThe report’s findings could have serious implications for the sand cat’s conservation status. There are also local threats from shepherd dogs that sometimes kill sand cats; domestic cats carrying diseases that are dangerous for the wild species; and there have also been cases of sand cats being captured for the illegal pet trade, he adds.

STOCKHOLM, April 25 (Reuters) - A research rocket launched by Sweden Space Corp (SSC) early on Monday from Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden malfunctioned and landed 15 km (9.32 miles) inside neighbouring Norway. There are routines in place when things go wrong and we inform both Swedish and Norwegian governments, and other actors, he said. In the event of any border violation, those responsible should immediately inform the relevant Norwegian authorities, which included the foreign ministry, through the right channels, the spokesperson said. The ministry had not received a formal notification of the incident from the Swedish authorities, she added. The Norwegian foreign ministry said it was not aware of whether there was any damage to the surroundings, while a SSC spokesperson said the rocket came down far from any settlement.

The Portuguese forward, who has now scored nine goals in his first season in Saudi Arabia, handed the ball to Brazilian Anderson Talisca, who had just returned from injury. "This is mutual respect and we are one team and we act like a family," Talisca told the Saudi Sports Company (SSC) TV through an interpreter. CNN —Corporate workers at Starbucks must return to the office at least three days a week by the end of January, interim CEO Howard Schultz announced in a Wednesday memo, as another corporate giant clamps down on remote work. Employees of regional offices must report to the office three days a week, though the memo didn’t name the days or specify what counts as commuting distance. When Starbucks (SBUX) embarked on hybrid work last year, Schultz said, corporate workers “made a promise” to be in the office between one to two days a week. The announcement comes a few days after Disney (DIS) CEO Bob Iger ordered workers to return to the office four days a week starting March 1. Apple (AAPL), for example, has called for its corporate workers to be in the office at least three days a week.
Starbucks corporate staff have been ordered back to the office three days a week from January 31. Howard Schultz said staff had failed to start coming in at least once a week. He "pleaded" with workers to return to the office last year, saying he'd "get on my knees." Staff located near regional offices have also been ordered to go in three days a week under similar conditions. "I have been unsuccessful, despite everything I've tried to do, to get our people back to work," Schultz said.
