We'll review a trade that wins if the market pulls back again. Inflation has been stubbornly high for months, and today's hotter-than-expected producer price index report only reinforces that notion. It is prudent to wait for confirmation of the double-top pattern before considering a bearish trade though. The trade setup: SPY 513-512 Bear Put Spread The trade structure I am using here is called a "bear put spread". BEFORE MAKING ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER SEEKING ADVICE FROM YOUR OWN FINANCIAL OR INVESTMENT ADVISOR.

Note that the last time, the 10-day moving average crossed above the 21-day moving average was back in late October/early November when the markets were just beginning a new bull run. Based on this thesis I want to make a bearish bet on DIA using a trade structure called a bear put spread. The Trade: DIA is a highly liquid ETF and if you look at its option chain, you will notice that it offers $1 wide strikes. DIA YTD mountain SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust YTD Amazon and Apple report earnings this week. These are all significant market moving events and so a solid risk management plan needs to be in place for any trades taken this week.

"People recommend investing in the Swiss market during uncertain periods – like if you are expecting a recession. "Maybe in a bull market, Swiss equities are not going to be a huge outperformer globally — but they can generate positive returns. But in difficult times, Swiss equities, besides the U.S., is one of the markets to buy," Bänziger said. In her view, Swiss stocks benefit from the strong Swiss franc and a political system that fosters innovation in companies. Meanwhile, Bänziger believes Swiss Prime Site and PSP Swiss Property make good investments among small- and mid-caps, given the opportunities in the Swiss real estate sector.

A Monday evening note from Almanac editor Jeffrey Hirsch said that the stock market appears to be in the early stages of an end-of-year rally. SPY YTD mountain The S & P 500 is up since May, but did suffer a late-summer swoon. The buy signal could help offset the multiple negatives working against the stock market, including bond yield volatility and the conflict in the Middle East. The Almanac's portfolio changes show an expectation of a broad market rally. The moves include buying the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA) , SPDR S & P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) , and the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) as well as the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM) .

Bearish views on the stock market culminated in the sale of an estimated record of $40 billion of S & P 500 stock index futures over the past five sessions, but that selling pressure is about to ease, according to a note from the Goldman Sachs trading desk. Hedge funds that use a managed futures strategy (Commodity Trading Advisors, or CTAs) recently unwound positions in S & P 500 futures at the greatest speed and magnitude "on record," Goldman said. With most of those positions now squared away, however, Goldman claims "we are closer to the end of this sell pressure than not." Goldman said lower risk, lowest cost trades are available in one-month call options on the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust , Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund , Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund and SPDR S & P 500 ETF Trust . Greater returns might come from stocks that Goldman added to its "conviction list" Monday, such as Nvidia , Cintas and Quanterix Corp. (Goldman removed Salesforce and Johnson Controls from the "conviction list" this week.)

Katie Stockton, founder of Fairlead Strategies, said investors could look at volatility products as a way to hedge their long positions in the bumpy market right now. The S & P 500 fell into a bear market, and today stands about 15% lower on the year. Samantha LaDuc of LaDuc Trading said that she added a few positions for downside protection recently. "In my 40 years of experience, bear market rallies are more vicious than bull market rallies," Kalayjian said. "I think this is a tradable market right now.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 4.9% in November, outperforming the other major averages. MKM chief market technician JC O'Hara said in a note to clients on Sunday that "old school leadership" is here to stay. "If this old index can continue to push higher and deeper into overbought territory, that will help break the S & P 500 out." One way for investors to play this trend is ETFs of old-school stocks, including the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (DIA) . The fund tracks the 30 stocks in the Dow Average, with an expense ratio of 0.16%, or $1.60 for every $1,000 invested.
