CNN —David Knezevich, the South Florida businessman accused in the February disappearance of his estranged wife in Spain, is now charged with her murder. A federal grand jury in Miami indicted Knezevich, 36, Wednesday on charges of kidnapping resulting in death, foreign domestic violence resulting in death, and foreign murder of a US national. If convicted of the newest charges, Knezevich could face the death penalty. Prosecutors said Knezevich traveled from Miami to Turkey and later to his native home of Serbia, where he rented a car and drove to Spain in late January. The complaint said the vehicle’s license plates were stolen from another vehicle on the street in Madrid where Henao was living.

CNN —Eight people were killed in the Serbian town of Novi Sad on Friday when the roof of a railway station collapsed, according to the country’s interior minister. Rescuers were at the scene of the accident within minutes of an emergency call being made, according to Dacic. APSerbia’s Prime Minister, Milos Vucevic, offered his condolences to families of victims affected by the incident, while thanking first responders. According to CNN affiliate N1, the railway station’s roof was renovated in 2021. More renovation work took place months later, and the building was officially reopened on July 5 this year.

Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest tennis players of all time, announced his retirement Thursday at age 38, bringing to a close the most dominant clay-court career in the history of the sport. Mohacs, Hungary/Prahovo, Serbia Reuters —The wrecks of explosives-laden Nazi ships sunk in the Danube River during World War II have emerged near Serbia’s river port town of Prahovo, after a drought in July and August that saw the river’s water level drop. The vessels revealed in Prahovo were among hundreds scuttled along the Danube by Nazi Germany’s Black Sea fleet in 1944 as they retreated from advancing Soviet forces, destroying the ships themselves. The wrecks can hamper river traffic during low water levels. During floods, the Danube rises well above 6 meters (19.7 feet). Long-awaited rainfall set in on Monday, which is expected to raise Danube levels to around 3 meters (9.8 feet) at Mohacs by the weekend, with the river likely to submerge the shipwrecks again.

The United States consistently cashed in French turnovers and misses into fastbreak points and Curry scored a team-high 24 points in a 98-87 American win in the men’s basketball gold medal game. Curry gave the Bercy Arena fans his "night, night" taunt after the final, dagger jumper. The four-time NBA champ Curry said the gold medal is something he'll always cherish. CNN —American rapper Travis Scott was arrested in Paris early Friday morning after getting into a fight with his bodyguard, authorities in the French capital said. Scott was subsequently arrested for “violence against another person,” according to a police spokesman. Scott, who was in Paris for the Olympic Games, on Thursday attended the men’s basketball semi-final that saw the United States beat Serbia. He was arrested for “violence against a security guard,” the Paris prosecutor’s office said later on Friday. Scott was arrested and booked into Miami-Dade County Jail in June on charges of trespass and disorderly intoxication.

PARIS — Former college hoops star and NBA veteran Jimmer Fredette tore ligaments playing for Team USA's 3x3 Olympics team and will be sidelined for about six months, he revealed late Sunday on social media. The Americans didn't get out of group play and suffered a tournament-ending 21-6 loss to the Netherlands, landing them in seventh place among eight squads. Fredette said he tore two ligaments in his adductor in his second game in Paris, a loss to Poland. The U.S. 3x3 team finished second in last year's 3x3 World Cup, dropping a 21-19 decision to Serbia in the title game.
