For one, the market was already in a sturdy uptrend, the S & P ahead by 20% in 2024 by October. Now, the S & P is up 44% in the past 18 months and the P/E is above 22 on more elevated margins. Here's the S & P 500 Value vs Growth relationship since 2014. His call is for investors to fade any near-term rally that takes the S & P above his 6100 "bull case" target for year end. For sure, the S & P 500 is by some measures running a bit hot, pushing above the top end of its two-year bull-market path.

New York CNN —Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company’s Apple Intelligence AI tools would “supercharge” the iPhone 16 when he introduced the new device last month. Now the world is about to get its first glimpse of whether the promise of Apple’s artificial intelligence technology is also supercharging deflated iPhone sales. That means people who bought the iPhone 16 in the first month it was on sale didn’t have access to those AI features until just recently. That figure will include sales of earlier iPhone models that happened during the quarter, too, but could indicate that the iPhone 16 helped raise sales slightly. In the year-ago quarter, when the iPhone 15 launched, iPhone sales grew about 2.8% year-over-year.

Frustrated small cap investors are turning to companies with profits as the bull market in big cap stocks starts its third year. Not so with the small-cap Russell 2000 : it didn't bottom until October 2023, and is only 35% off the low, still 9% shy of its historic high in November 2021. Including 2024, the S & P 500 has outperformed the small-cap Russell 2000 in 12 of the past 15 years. A similar fund that also tracks the S & P SmallCap 600 Index is the iShares Core S & P Small-Cap ETF (IJR). Other small cap funds with a profitability tilt have also seen strong inflows recently, including the Dimensional U.S. Small Cap ETF (DFAS) and the Avantis Small Cap Value ETF (AVUV).

The recipes used garlic, sour cream, and tomatoes as bases, and the hacks were all great. Luckily, I spoke to celebrity chef and Food Network star Alex Guarnaschelli, who recommended three pasta-sauce hacks that sounded easy and delicious. Paige Bennett for InsiderFirst, I wanted to try the recipe that involved combining pasta with sautéed garlic, lemon zest, pasta water, oil, and cheese. Carroll had little interest in cruises, but a writing retreat aboard the Queen Mary 2 intrigued her. The solo travel part wasn't out of character — I'd spent most of my 20s backpacking alone. It was this writing retreat — with its promise of expert instruction plus time to focus — that enticed me to get on board a ship. I was hoping that a writing retreat would reignite that spark. Ray Dalio is again promoting the idea that China urgently needs to start a "beautiful deleveraging." In a LinkedIn post on Tuesday, Dalio wrote of what he called a "beautiful deleveraging," or an aggressive, two-pronged approach to solving debt issues. Dalio wrote that Chinese leader Xi Jinping's unprecedented stimulus sparked a "big week" for economic optimism, but it won't be enough. The interest rate cuts would ideally be so drastic that they run below inflation and nominal growth rates, Dalio wrote. If Beijing doesn't start a "beautiful deleveraging," he said, it risks allowing its crisis to drag on and create an "economic and psychological malaise like Japan experienced."

Apple needed the iPhone 16 to be a big seller after years of sluggish iPhone sales. In particular, demand for the higher priced iPhone 16 Pro devices were down sharply year-over-year compared with the iPhone 15 launch. Analysts say there appears to have been greater demand for the lower priced iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus devices than the Pro and Pro Max, which could affect the average selling price and overall iPhone sales revenue. In the first weekend of presales, Apple sold 9.8 million iPhone 16 Pros and 17.1 million iPhone 16 Pro Max devices, down 27% and 16% year-over-year, respectively, according to Kuo. “It’s all about a monster holiday quarter and the supercycle begins for iPhone 16 in our view,” Ives told CNN in an email.

According to Bank of America, one area of the market is set to benefit from increased market volatility: quality stocks, or stocks with strong business models and financial fundamentals. And the cherry on top is that quality stocks — which typically become expensive during downturns — are still cheap despite their recent rally, coming out of a two-decade rut. CNN —Nvidia, the AI chipmaking titan that was briefly the world’s most valuable company, has suddenly found itself in an unfamiliar position: a major rut. Nvidia (NVDA) had the worst day in the history of the stock market Tuesday, as measured by loss in total market value. To put that shocking decline into context, only 27 companies on the planet are worth as much as Nvidia lost in value Tuesday. That’s why bulls like Wedbush’s Dan Ives believe Nvidia’s stock decline presents a buying opportunity. – CNN’s Ramishah Maruf contributed to this reportCorrection: Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly described TSMC's relationship with Nvidia.
