A group of more than a dozen Republican lawmakers is urging a collegiate athletic conference to ban transgender women from competition after reports of a trans student competing on the s women’s volleyball team of a participating university. “Under these guidelines, it is only fair that biological males play men’s sports and biological females play women’s sports.”“Clearly, the Mountain West Conference has dropped the ball,” it continues. Rep. Steve Scalise, the GOP nominee to the next speaker of the House, has a rare blood cancer. "I guess it's the elephant in the room," said Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee, who supports Scalise's speakership bid. Scalise was diagnosed in August with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer that's treatable but not curable, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. "I will admit it's a concern," said Rep. Keith Self of Texas, who's among the Republicans who have yet to support Scalise. Burchett also suggested that Greene was getting more attention for her remark about Scalise's cancer because she's a woman.

As COVID-19 raged, the House of Representatives voted in 2020 to allow members to vote by proxy. New House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has now ended it. With newfound control of the House, one of McCarthy's first moves was to eliminate proxy voting when finalizing the House rules package. Joined by 20 other GOP representatives, the lawsuit claimed the US Constitution only allowed for in-person voting and that proxy voting was unconstitutional. These trips are generally funded by the federal government, and proxy voting allowed members to vote while abroad on important business.
