A group of more than a dozen Republican lawmakers is urging a collegiate athletic conference to ban transgender women from competition after reports of a trans student competing on the s women’s volleyball team of a participating university. “Under these guidelines, it is only fair that biological males play men’s sports and biological females play women’s sports.”“Clearly, the Mountain West Conference has dropped the ball,” it continues. In September, SJSU volleyball player Brooke Slusser joined a lawsuit filed by more than a dozen women athletes against the NCAA, which oversees collegiate athletics, about trans athletes’ participation in school sports. The lawsuit argues that the NCAA violated the Title IX rights of cisgender female athletes by allowing transgender women to compete against them. Just last week, Slusser and 10 other former and current athletes in the Mountain West Conference filed a separate lawsuit against the conference and three SJSU staffers, accusing them of violating players’ Title IX rights.

Mahomes vs. Allen, Round 8The NFL schedulers probably should have made this the Sunday night contest. The Bears rank seventh against the pass, have allowed only 18.6 points per game (seventh-best) and have 16 takeaways (also seventh). Foes do find it hard to run on Baltimore, which gives up an NFL-low 73.0 rushing yards per game. They are holding opponents to a league-best 13.1 points per game, and haven’t allowed more than 20 points in any game this season. So this matchup will be a good measuring stick for the Chargers’ defense, while proving whether Herbert and company can win in a shootout if necessary.

Details on the proposal are scant and some Democrats have called the overtime tax promise "as fake as his tan." "As part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime," he said at a rally in Tucson, Arizona. Among these, 82.1 million were hourly workers and 15.6 million were salaried workers, the report said. Meanwhile, about 7% of hourly workers and 70% of salaried workers do not qualify for FLSA, the report said. For example, would it be designed as just an income tax or would it be a payroll tax exemption as well?

Analysts expect Trump's economic policies to increase inflation, and push interest rates higher. AdvertisementDonald Trump's victory is set to herald a new era of higher inflation, tighter monetary policy, and surging cryptocurrencies, analysts said in initial reactions to the presidential election result. The economic impact of Trump's second term is likely to be volatile, said Lindsay James, investment strategist at UK-based Quilter Investments. However, such cuts could be shortlived if Trump's trade policies, which include proposed near-universal tariffs, prove to be inflationary as expected. Bitcoin could hit $100,000One asset that analysts expect to surge in the wake of Trump's victory is bitcoin, which rallied sharply early on Wednesday morning.

The West WingOne of Trump’s most important picks will be his White House chief of staff. Karoline Leavitt, who was Trump’s campaign spokeswoman, is being considered as White House press secretary – a job that typically is the most public-facing position in the White House. National security postsTrump has suggested his national security team would be tasked with reassessing the United States’ posture toward Ukraine and Russia, China, Iran, and the simmering conflict in the Middle East. The debate over a renewed Trump’s “America First” agenda is expected to pit Republican national security hawks against the party’s isolationist wing. Secretary of state and national security adviser will be among the most hard-fought positions to stand at the forefront of those shifts.

Even Warren Buffett thinks his stock is too expensive

CNN —Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has over $325 billion in cash on hand. Berkshire Hathaway was a net seller of stocks across its portfolio that quarter and grew its cash-on-hand to record amounts. Berkshire Hathaway’s actions signal to investors that its stock might be overvalued, Cathy Seifert, an analyst at CFRA Research, told CNN. Buffett will repurchase shares when he thinks the price is “below Berkshire’s intrinsic value, conservatively determined,” according to Berkshire Hathaway’s regulatory filings. “All this suggests that Buffett has serious concerns about the economic backdrop and the current state of the stock market,” Mould said in a note.

Warren Buffett signaled in Berkshire Hathaway's third-quarter earnings that he was being cautious. The investor built a record cash pile, slashed his two biggest stock bets, and halted buybacks. The legendary investor and his team sold $36 billion of shares and only made purchases worth $1.5 billion, marking their eighth straight quarter as net sellers. Related storiesNotably, Berkshire pared its bets on Apple and Bank of America, its two largest stock positions going into the quarter. Buffett has said that buybacks only make financial sense when a stock is trading at a discount to its intrinsic value.

Nvidia dethroned Apple as the world’s most valuable company on Friday following a record-setting rally in the stock, powered by insatiable demand for its specialized artificial intelligence chips. Nvidia’s stock market value briefly touched $3.53 trillion, slightly above Apple’s $3.52 trillion, LSEG data showed. Nvidia ended the day up 0.8%, with a market value of $3.47 trillion, while Apple’s shares rose 0.4%, valuing the iPhone maker at $3.52 trillion. In June, Nvidia briefly became the world’s most valuable company before it was overtaken by Microsoft and Apple. Shares of Nvidia, Apple and Microsoft have an outsized influence on the richly valued technology sector as well as the broader U.S. stock market, with the trio accounting for about a fifth of the S&P 500 index’s weight.

Still, as the U.S. men’s team starts its Olympic run Sunday, it begins with a roster that has drawn countless comparisons to the Dream Team. On paper, the U.S. men’s team is arguably the best team assembled since 1992. Durant is the most prolific scorer in U.S. men’s history and could, if the Americans win gold in Paris, become the most decorated Olympic men’s basketball player. A loss in the knockout stages, when there are no more second chances, and a Dream Team redux becomes a historic nightmare. In that scenario, the U.S. men’s team would be remembered forever, even if not quite held in the same reverence as the Dream Team.

Former President Donald J. Trump hawks $59.99 Bibles with the same words he uses to win the votes of evangelical Christians. All of it could be described as Martyr Inc., a machinery that makes Mr. Trump money and promotes his re-election by characterizing him as unjustly persecuted and selflessly saving his supporters from a similar fate. Even after recent declines, Mr. Trump’s shares are worth more than $3 billion, though he cannot yet sell. With Mr. Trump’s tacit encouragement, his supporters have characterized buying Trump products as a measure of patriotism. That was the former president’s message in his Truth Social pitch for the customized Bible on the cusp of the Independence Day holiday: “Every Patriot should have one.”

Yet those efforts are complicated by Trump’s extremely close relationship with many of the people who launched Project 2025 or helped contribute to it. Still, conversations about a possible drift toward Donald Trump, though, are evident in the several Jewish elected Democratic leaders who grimaced and ducked when asked by CNN to discuss their sense of Jewish support for Biden. Talking with Jewish voters in Michigan, “I’ve had a couple of people say point blank, ‘How could any Jew vote for a Democrat?’” said Troy Zukowski, the West Michigan chair of the Michigan Jewish Democrats. The president does have some key Jewish voices of support in important places. Trump’s support among Jewish voters in 2020, at 30% according to Associated Press exit polls, was the highest for a Republican presidential candidate in decades. Former President Donald J. Trump used a dubious accounting maneuver to claim improper tax breaks from his troubled Chicago tower, according to an Internal Revenue Service inquiry uncovered by The New York Times and ProPublica. Losing a yearslong audit battle over the claim could mean a tax bill of more than $100 million. The 92-story, glass-sheathed skyscraper along the Chicago River is the tallest and, at least for now, the last major construction project by Mr. Trump. But when Mr. Trump sought to reap tax benefits from his losses, the I.R.S. That move resulted in Mr. Trump reporting losses as high as $651 million for the year, The Times and ProPublica found.
