CNN —The 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess has been arrested on suspicion of rape, Norwegian police said Tuesday. Marius Borg Høiby was born before his mother Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon and became a princess in 2001. Høiby was arrested late on Monday night, police said, and was being held in a detention center on Tuesday morning. Three of the women have been in a relationship with Høiby, NRK reported, adding that he has been accused of abuse in close relationships against all three women. In August, police charged Høiby with assault and criminal damage after a violent incident at an apartment in Oslo that allegedly involved one of the three women.

London CNN —Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has controversially broken royal protocol and claimed in his upcoming memoir that Queen Elizabeth II was suffering from bone cancer before her death. Johnson isn’t the first prime minister to reminisce about his life, time in office and interactions with the late Queen in an autobiography. Buckingham Palace has a policy not to comment on books released about the royal family and as such has not confirmed or denied Johnson’s assertions. Johnson, who served as prime minister between 2019 and 2022, recalls traveling to the royal residence of Balmoral for the customary outgoing audience and resignation. Thinking back on that last time the pair sat together in the Queen’s drawing room, Johnson said that he understood Young’s forewarning.

And, fittingly, in the first full year of his reign, the British monarchy introduced a slew of measures to tackle its rising carbon emissions. The King’s two Bentleys will also be modified within the next year to run on biofuel, according to Britain’s PA Media. The Royal Household aims to transition to an “almost fully electric” fleet of vehicles eventually, the accounts said, without providing a target date. Whether biofuels used for vehicles reduce carbon emissions is contentious and depends on many factors, including their source. The Crown Estate, the national portfolio of historical and commercial land-holdings, is owned by the British monarch but managed independently and its revenues are given to the government. In exchange, the monarchy currently receives 12% of Crown Estate profits — a proportion calculated on funds two years in arrears. The use of royal warrants can be traced back to medieval times when Henry II first granted a Royal Charter to the Weavers’ Company, according to the Royal Warrants Holders Association. In the 15th century, the first official royal warrants were granted, including to the King’s printer, William Caxton. A royal source said they don’t expect any Counselors of State - the senior royals who can stand in for Charles - will be needed next week. Currently, Princes William, Harry, Andrew and Edward, as well as Princess Anne, are able to fulfil Charles’ duties in his absence. The Princess of Wales was seen over Christmas with the family in Sandringham and appeared well at various public engagements, notes CNN royal historian Kate Williams. Her husband, Prince William, will juggle childcare while being by her side as she recovers, another royal source said. With all this in mind, the monarchy still needs a public facing royal and that will come in the form of Queen Camilla.

LONDON (AP) — A lawyer for Prince Harry on Tuesday challenged the U.K. government’s decision to strip him of his security detail after he gave up his status as a working member of the royal family and moved to the United States. Harry, whose wife is biracial, cited what he said were racist attitudes and unbearable intrusions of the British media in his decision to leave the United Kingdom. Eadie also said there was a cost factor, because security funds aren’t unlimited. Harry said the committee unfairly nixed his security request without hearing from him personally and didn't disclose the panel’s composition, which he later learned included royal family staff. The case is one of five that Harry has pending in the High Court.
