Four students were arrested on felony charges after buildings at the University of Rochester in New York were defaced with "wanted" posters targeting several Jewish faculty members, officials said. The four students were charged with felony criminal mischief and a fifth is being investigated, Quchee Collins, the university public safety chief, said in a news release Tuesday. "The posters identifying faculty, staff, and board members have instilled credible fear among those depicted, their families, and other members of our Jewish community," Mangelsdorf said in a message to the community. The university Department of Public Safety was made aware of the posters last week and immediately began removing them. The posters named certain university staff members and professors for alleged war crimes related to the conflict in Gaza, NBC affiliate WHEC of Rochester reported.

Shirley Chisholm, a former New York congresswoman, became the first Black woman to seek the office in 1972. “I’m ready for a female president, I just don’t think that most of America is yet, and I don’t know why,” she said. In the Senate, Angela Alsobrooks will be the first Black woman to represent Maryland and Lisa Blunt Rochester will be the first woman to represent Delaware. Democrat Angela Alsobrooks has won Maryland’s Senate race, NBC News projects, defeating popular former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan and becoming the first Black woman elected to represent the state in the Senate. It also means that, for the first time in history, Maryland will have a Black senator, governor and mayor of its largest city, Baltimore. Hogan could never quite replicate the support he received from Democrats as governor in his Senate campaign. McBride, a Democrat, defeated Republican John Whalen III, taking 57.8% of the vote with 95% of the vote in. She thanked her friends and family and her late husband, Andy Cray, who died of cancer in 2014, just days after their wedding. He said he persuaded six Republicans to vote for McBride. In 2020, she was elected to represent Delaware’s 1st Senate District, which includes Claymont, Bellefonte and parts of Edgemoor and Wilmington, becoming the country’s first openly trans state senator.

Blunt Rochester, 62, told NBC News before Election Day that she had her sights set on creating jobs, protecting reproductive rights, health care and centering the needs of seniors and families. CNN —Sarah McBride, a Delaware state senator, will win her state’s at-large US House seat, making her the first out transgender person to serve in Congress, CNN projects. Despite running in a reliably blue state, McBride emphasized her work leading a bipartisan push to pass paid family and medical leave in the state. McBride, a former spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBTQ rights group, has made history throughout her public life. Four years later, McBride became the first transgender person to address a national party convention, when she spoke at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. And in 2020, McBride became the first out transgender person elected to serve in a state Senate, when she was elected to represent a seat in northern Delaware.

CNN —Democrat Angela Alsobrooks will win the Maryland Senate race, CNN projects, defeating Republican former Gov. Her victory is a relief for Democrats, who were facing a daunting Senate landscape before this race came on the map. Neither made their history-making potential a key message on the trail, but it was resonant in a state where Black voters – and Black women in particular – are a crucial part of the electorate. Alsobrooks’ home turf of Prince George’s County is home to one of the largest middle-class Black populations in the country. The Democratic Party quickly united around Alsobrooks, who already had the backing of most of the state’s congressional delegation.

They said the swim school failed to protect them from an alleged predator by insisting that they change in an open area instead of providing them with a private changing area. “Goldfish failed in its basic duties and obligations to protect them from such harm,” states the lawsuit, which was filed in the Oakland County Circuit Court. “There’s nothing we can say about this right now,” a woman who identified herself as a manager at the Goldfish Swim School in Rochester said when contacted Wednesday by NBC News.
