Hurricane Helene has caused significant disruptions for election officials in North Carolina and across the Southeast, scrambling preparations for early and mail voting that have been in the works for months.
North Carolina officials mailed 190,000 ballots last week, some of which may be delayed or destroyed by flooding.
Early in-person voting is scheduled to begin Oct. 17 across more than 400 locations in North Carolina.
North Carolina is among the core battleground states former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are competing in this fall.
The area of North Carolina hit by the hurricane tends to lean Republican politically, aside from Democrat-heavy Asheville.
