An Alabama inmate convicted in a 1994 murder is poised to die Thursday in the state's third nitrogen hypoxia execution this year. Carey Dale Grayson asked to have his execution carried out by nitrogen gas. It refused to do so when Alabama executed Kenneth Smith, the first person in the U.S. to die in a nitrogen gas execution, in January and again in September, when the state executed Alan Miller in a second nitrogen gas execution. Since then, Alabama has become the first state to develop a nitrogen hypoxia execution protocol in addition to lethal injection. “The State of Alabama’s nitrogen protocol has been used twice and has not worked as they swore it would.

Yet Durham found that no senior FBI or CIA officials had committed crimes. Former intelligence officials disagree on whether Trump would seek to use the spy agencies against domestic political opponents, and if he did, how the intelligence workforce and courts would respond. Presidents face few legal constraints when it comes to their authority over the intelligence agencies, legal experts and former senior officials said. Supporters of Trump say dire warnings about the future of the intelligence agencies under a new Trump administration are hysterical and overblown, and that his record at the White House shows that he strengthened the spy agencies. “And the other is the risk that the intelligence agencies will be directed to do things that are either unlawful or inappropriate.”

Hong Kong CNN —No United States leader has handled relations with North Korea quite like Donald Trump. But the second Trump administration will face an emboldened and arguably more dangerous North Korean leader. The North Korean leader has met with his “closest comrade” Russian President Vladimir Putin twice since last September and inked a major defense pact in June. Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meet in Pyongyang this past June. That means the North Korean leader may look for benefit in Trump’s return.

Cans of Dr Pepper soda are displayed on June 3, 2024 in San Anselmo, California. While consumers are drinking more Coke, Coke Zero, Dr Pepper and Canada Dry, Pepsi’s soda sales are struggling. ‘Diet Coke Break’“Dirty soda,” a popular TikTok trend that combines soda with syrup and cream, has also driven interest in soda brands among younger consumers interested in creating their own soda concoctions. TikTok has also recently become filled with “Dirty Diet Coke,” “Crispy Diet Coke” and “DietCokeBreak” recipe videos where people leave cans of Diet Coke in the fridge for weeks and then pour them into a glass, sometimes with citrus powder, to get the most fizziness. Singer Dua Lipa gave Coke its latest viral hit this month when she posted a video sharing her Diet Coke recipe, which combines Diet Coke, pickle juice and jalapeño sauce.

This article is part of the Opinion series At the Brink, about the threat of nuclear weapons in an unstable world. The new buildings and cutting-edge machinery will eventually process the uranium needed to make the next generation of American nuclear weapons. Now there are an estimated 12,000 nuclear weapons in the world. It is undeniably true that the world is becoming more contentious, and nuclear weapons do deter our adversaries.

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a “Latter-Day Saints for Trump” coalition less than a month before Election Day, as the campaign looks to shore up support among a key voting bloc in which defections could be particularly damaging in key western battlegrounds. “President Trump has consistently stood by our side in defending both, ensuring that Latter-day Saints and people of all faiths can worship freely and live according to our beliefs,” Lee said. Latter-day Saints voters’ steadfast support for GOP candidates has long helped keep Utah and Idaho — the states with the largest share of LDS voters — impenetrably red on election nights. The former president plans to hold a roundtable with Latter-day Saints leaders on Sunday in Arizona, according to a campaign aide. The Harris campaign hosts a “Latter Day Saints for Harris-Walz coalition on its website and launched an advisory committee in Arizona last month.

WASHINGTON — A group of national security experts led by Cabinet members from the Trump administration endorsed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, citing his foreign policy record and calling him "a peacemaker." The group, organized by former Trump national security adviser Robert O'Brien and former National Security Council chief of staff Alex Gray, wrote in a letter that "securing peace" is "the legacy of Trump." The letter comes amid an escalating conflict in the Middle East between Iran and Israel, as well as Russia's war in Ukraine. "The policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have invited conflict, diminished America’s standing around the globe, and imperiled our national security," the letter says. The signers do not include Trump's first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, or his secretaries of defense, James Mattis and Mark Esper.

Without providing any details, Trump told the Post "we hear" that Biden will order the Department of Justice to drop its criminal cases against Trump. Trump and the GOP have repeatedly alleged, long before Saturday's shooting, that Biden is behind the charges against Trump. One by one, each country with the money and the drive to compete started its own nuclear weapons program. Even with this kind of evidence in hand, science has reached only limited conclusions about how nuclear weapons testing affects individuals’ health. They helped create the 2021 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, signed by 93 countries, which bans the possession, use and testing of nuclear weapons. France has acknowledged its “debt” to Polynesians over nuclear testing, and it created a commission in 2010 to evaluate nuclear testing victim compensation claims, but it has never apologized. We are still wrestling with the damage wrought by testing nuclear weapons in our past.

Read previewDonald Trump's former White House national security advisor is arguing that a second term in office should involve restarting US nuclear testing for the first time in over 30 years. No one wins a nuclear arms race, he said. Kimball called out the difference between O'Brien's argument for the resumption of nuclear testing with the Biden administration's current policy, which remains dedicated to the status quo. "Resuming nuclear testing would reduce US technical superiority over Russia and China because they would immediately follow and have much more to learn," he said. O'Brien's push for resumed testing shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise.

He looked genuinely upset earlier this week when his supporters sang an early “Happy Birthday” to him at a rally in Las Vegas. The Biden campaign hit back with an email on Mr. Trump’s birthday, reminding voters that he had fallen asleep at his own trial, a case that resulted in felony convictions. Images of Mr. Trump playing golf and sitting behind the resolute desk were painted into the icing. “I’ll never forget that Bibi Netanyahu let us down,” Mr. Trump said then. The 1990 legislation has provided billions of dollars to people exposed to harmful radiation during U.S. nuclear tests or while mining uranium. A bill currently stalled in Congress would extend the law and expand compensation to nearly all Americans whose documented health struggles are linked to the nuclear weapons program.

One of former President Donald J. Trump’s closest foreign policy advisers, Robert O’Brien, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel on Monday as part of a delegation of former Trump officials that visited a number of Israeli leaders. Mr. O’Brien, who served as national security adviser to Mr. Trump and is expected to play a significant role in any second Trump administration, was joined in the meetings by two other former Trump officials — the former ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, John Rakolta, and the former ambassador to Switzerland, Ed McMullen. The members of the delegation were described by Marshall Wittmann, a spokesman for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the pro-Israel lobbying group whose affiliate, the American Israel Education Foundation, funded and organized the trip. In a brief phone interview, Mr. O’Brien said he had wanted to visit Israel ever since the Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7 to express his “solidarity for Israel and the Jewish people.”Mr. O’Brien said Mr. Trump was aware of his trip to Israel, but he said the former president had not asked him to go or directed him to say anything to Mr. Netanyahu. He said he was there as a “private citizen,” adding that he did express his view to Mr. Netanyahu that the Hamas terrorist attack would never have happened if Mr. Trump were still president.
