Miami Beach, Florida AP —A bodyless head that washed ashore in South Florida has been identified as that of a 19-year-old swimmer who went missing in Miami Beach after he tried to rescue his younger sister from a rip current, authorities said. Meanwhile, a man’s head was found November 12 by a beach worker in Key Biscayne, the barrier island just off Miami. Castaneda and his sister were swimming at Miami Beach’s South Point Beach when a rip current caught them. A bystander went into the water and rescued the girl, but when that person went back to help Castaneda, he was nowhere to be found, family members said. “He would have loved to see how many people have come and come together and love him wholeheartedly,” Castaneda’s sister, Chloe, told WBFS-TV.

Rafael was moving west across the Gulf of Mexico Friday morning as the first major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico in November for almost 40 years, bringing the threat of life-threatening conditions to the southern United States coastline. Forecasters said the storm could cause dangerous surf and rip-tides across the whole Gulf region in the coming days, after causing havoc in Cuba where millions are still without power. ET Rafael was 585 miles east of the mouth of the Rio Grande with sustained wind speeds of 120 mph, making it a Category 3 hurricane, moving west at a rate of 9 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. Rafael is now tied with Hurricane Kate in 1985 as the strongest storms recorded in the Gulf. The storm is expected to weaken throughout the weekend, but it could still produce tropical storm-force winds — which is between 39 and 73 mph — up to 115 miles from its center.

As Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts attempted to catch a foul ball in the first inning of Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday, two Yankees fans tried to rip the ball out of his glove. The bizarre 'only-in-New York' moment took place in the bottom of the first when Gleyber Torres led off the inning with a pop fly to right field. Follow along for live coverage of Game 4After Betts nabbed the ball, one Yankees fan in an away Aaron Judge jersey wouldn't let go of Betts' left hand until he pried it loose. The effort was all for nothing as the umpire ruled Torres out from fan interference and the two men were escorted out by stadium security. This marks the second time this series Torres has been on the wrong end of a fan interference call.

New York CNN —The leader of the Los Angeles Times’ editorial board said Wednesday she has resigned from her post in protest after the newspaper’s owner blocked a decision to endorse Kamala Harris in the presidential election. “I am resigning because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with us being silent,” Mariel Garza told the Columbia Journalism Review in an interview. Garza told CJR the editorial board had intended to endorse Harris, who previously served as a US Senator from California and the state’s attorney general. “I didn’t think we were going to change our readers’ minds—our readers, for the most part, are Harris supporters,” Garza told CJR. “This is a point in time where you speak your conscience no matter what,” Garza told CJR.
