In the battle for bronze, Japan’s Hideki Matsuayama shot a final-round 65 to finish at 17-under-par, two shots behind Scheffler and one behind Fleetwood. Scheffler has won seven of his last 11 outings, all coming in majors or signature events with limited fields. The biggest winner this week was perhaps golf as an Olympic sport. Massive crowds all three days, genuine Olympic energy, and a star-stacked leaderboard proved the sport has a place in the Games.

CNN —Three-time Olympic champion Gabby Douglas has ended her bid to represent Team USA in Paris this summer after withdrawing from this week’s Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships in Texas. In an interview with ESPN, Douglas said despite the setback, she wasn’t planning on giving up on a future Summer Games run. Before that, she had last competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Douglas kept a low profile after the Games in Rio, taking a break from social media to do some “soul searching,” CNN has previously reported. Douglas won two golds during her Olympic debut in 2012, including in the all-around event, and added a team gold at the Rio Games in 2016.

Douglas last competed almost eight years ago at the Rio Olympics, but announced her intention to return to the sport in an Instagram post last year. “I was so excited to get back out on the competition floor, but unfortunately, I just tested positive for Covid. I’m crushed but I’ll see you guys soon!”Douglas competes on the uneven bars during the 2016 US Olympic team trials. June 13 (Reuters) - Former 100 metres world champion Tori Bowie died from complications during childbirth, U.S. media reported. The American, who won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Rio Games in 2016 and was crowned world champion a year later, died on May 3 at the age of 32. An autopsy report from the Orange County (Florida) Medical Examiner's Office obtained by USA TODAY Sports said Bowie was approximately eight months pregnant and experiencing labour when she died. Possible complications included respiratory distress and eclampsia, a rare condition which can cause seizures. Bowie's agent Kimberly Holland told CBS News the news would end the "hurtful" speculation about the cause of death.
