CNN —Bugatti has unveiled its new model, the Bugatti Tourbillon, a massively powerful hybrid with an equally impressive pricetag. But Mate Rimac, the chief executive of the new company, now called Bugatti Rimac, said he never had any intention of making an all-electric Bugatti. Like the Bugatti Chiron and Veyron models before it, the new Bugatti Tourbillon will have a huge 16-cylinder gas engine. In total, the Bugatti Tourbillon will be able to put out at least 1,800 horsepower, according to Bugatti Rimac. The Chiron’s gas engine had four turbochargers that pushed air into the engine to help it produce more power.

The electric 1,093-horsepower Taycan Turbo GT, coming to market this summer, has already set two race track speed record for an electric car. High horsepower numbers and eye-popping acceleration are more common among electric cars than gasoline-powered ones, especially since EVs can have multiple motors. This Turbo GT, a new version of the electric Porsche Taycan, features two motors. One, the standard Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, will be fast but reasonably comfortable for street driving. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package, though, will dispense with backseats and other comfort items to save weight.

CNN —BYD is a Chinese carmaker that recently unseated Tesla as the world’s leading seller of electric vehicles. Its new all-electric Yangwang U9 has nearly 1,300 horspower and is designed to compete directly with Lamborghini and Ferrari. As an electric supercar, the Yangwang U9 combines power and performance similar to a 1,800-horsepower, $2 million Rimac Nevera, but in a package costing less than gasoline-powered cars from the famous Italian automakers. Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has said that Chinese EV makers like BYD could “demolish” other automakers as the industry transitions to electric vehicles. ]”A rear view of the BYD Yangwang U9 electric car in Shenzhen, China, earlier this year.

REUTERS/Anthony Marina Acquire Licensing RightsLIMA, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Archaeologists in Peru have unearthed four mummies of children believed to be at least 1,000 years old from what was once a sacred ceremonial space that is now in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of modern-day Lima. "The people who lived here during the Ychsma period still considered it a sacred space and therefore buried their dead here." Takuda said the mummies' skulls still had hair on them. When I was born, in 1946, Lima was home to 640,000 people. Now, as I’m about to turn 77 in the year 2023, Lima is a city of 10 million. In some ways, you could say that I’ve survived alongside the city. For Lima has taken the white veil; and there is a higher horror in this whiteness of her woe. I myself have approached Lima from different points of view: I’ve written stories about young people in the margins, in the working-class neighborhoods of Lima, and also, as the son of Japanese parents who settled in Peru, I’ve set Limeñan nikkeis to fiction.

Its 35-year-old founder, Mate Rimac, started tinkering with electric vehicles after he blew the engine in an old BMW he raced as a teen. After rebuilding it with an electric drivetrain – and winning some races – he founded Rimac Automobili in 2009, and today the company has released an electric supercar, the Nevera. CNBC's John Rosevear gives the $2.1 million EV a test drive in the canyon roads above Malibu to find out if it lives up to the hype.

MALIBU, California – The most amazing thing about the $2.1 million Rimac Nevera is how easy it is to just get in and drive. It sits low — very low — to the ground, and at first glance it looks like the simple act of getting into it could be complicated. Gears are shifted with a big knob to the left of the steering wheel, the power seat's adjustments are hidden in a touchscreen, and switches for the turn signals and headlights are mounted directly on the steering wheel. One of the first things I noticed as we got underway is that it's easy to see out of the Nevera. And the Nevera is very special indeed — as it should be for its just over $2 million asking price.

CNN —The Lamborghini Lanzador is only a concept car for now, but the Italian supercar maker says it offers a preview of the brand’s very first fully electric model which will go into production in 2028. With no space needed for a gas engine — in a gas-powered Lamborghini sports car, it would be behind the seats — the Lanzador has small back seats. Other automakers, like Rimac and Automobili Pininfarina (which uses Rimac technology), already sell electric two-seat supercars costing millions of dollars. Porsche — which like Lamborghini is part of the Volkswagen Group — took a similar approach with its first EV. Lamborghini has committed to selling only “electrified vehicles,” meaning either plug-in hybrid or fully electric, by the end of 2024.

"This (deal) really kicks off that wing of the Lucid Group's business," CEO Peter Rawlinson told Reuters. Lucid's initial focus will be on providing high-performance, ultra-high voltage technology that would not be suitable for the mass-market, reflected in the Aston deal, Rawlinson said. However, he continued, its business licensing out parts should grow as the company moves to more mass-market models. Aston and Lucid share a common shareholder in Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), but Rawlinson said the Saudi wealth fund played no role in the deal. "Aston Martin had options and they chose quite independently what they felt is the best technology available on the planet," he added.

An array of startups offers second-life energy storage using old EV batteries. The second-life energy storage idea is in theory simple. The problem is a lack of old EV batteries that shows no sign of easing. He has just sold the car for $3,000 to pay down credit card debt, but wants another used EV. Commercial vehicles provide the best hope thus far for second-life batteries, industry officials said.

New York CNN —Bugatti sold its last purely gas-powered supercar at a Paris auction Wednesday for more than $10 million, setting a world auction record for a new car. Originally a special development model that was never intended to be sold, the one-of-a-kind Bugatti Chiron Profilée sold at RM Sotheby’s Paris collector car auction for a bid of $9.5 million. The Bugatti Chiron Profilée is painted in a special color called Argent Atlantique, a hue developed just for this car. Included in that 500 have been a few variants, such as the Chiron Sport, Chiron Pur Sport and Chiron Super Sport, each with varying degrees of top speed, acceleration and cornering aggressiveness. The Bugatti Chiron Profilée has an aerodynamic wing to increase pressure on the rear wheels at high speeds.
Bought from McLaren by private equity firm Greybull Capital in 2021, McLaren Applied has adapted an efficient inverter developed for F1 racing for EVs. Fry says McLaren Applied is working with around 20 carmakers and suppliers, and the inverter will appear in high-volume luxury EV models starting January 2025. NO TIME TO LOSESome suppliers like Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Actnano have had long relationships with EV pioneer Tesla (TSLA.O). Coakley said CelLink was working with U.S. and European carmakers, and with a European battery maker on battery wiring. But it has now also developed battery packs, electric powertrains, e-axles and is working with around 20 customers, including carmakers and an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft maker.

As the ad industry braces itself for what's sure to be a challenging 2023, we're taking a look at what Microsoft will need to do to achieve its ambitious goal of doubling its advertising business to $20 billion. Microsoft plans to grow its advertising business to $20 billion. In an interview with Insider, Microsoft Ads chief Rob Wilk shared plans to double the size of the company's ad business. Were Microsoft to reach $20 billion in ad revenue, it would overtake Chinese tech and media giant Tencent to become the sixth-largest digital ad seller worldwide, based on Insider Intelligence's estimates. Gyasi Calhoun, a front-end software engineer and developer at Twilio, said there's perks to the job, but that the industry can be stressful.
The $2.1 million electric supercar Rimac Nevera has 1,914 horsepower and 1,741 pound-feet of torque. But the Rimac Nevera taught me there's still a lot of that to be done on Earth. Alanis KingThe Nevera is a $2.1 million electric supercar from Rimac, a Croatian carmaker founded in 2009 by the now 34-year-old Mate Rimac. Rimac AutomobiliThe Nevera has four electric motors — one for each wheel — that, combined, make 1,914 horsepower and 1,741 pound-feet of torque. "The car will step out a little," they said, referring to the slide a car's wheels do when they begin to lose traction.
The Rimac Nevera is now the fastest production electric car in the world. The company said its supercar hit a blistering top speed of 256 mph. The $2 million Nevera supercar recently hit 256 mph, smashing the world record for speed in a production electric vehicle, Rimac announced on Tuesday. The Rimac Nevera. The Rimac Nevera.
If anyone still needs convincing that electric cars need not be boring appliances, the Battista is a convincing, if costly, argument. Electric power promises more acceleration and power without tailpipe emissions and, for better or worse, without the cacophony of a V12. But Lamborghini’s current CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, has said that a proper electric supercar isn’t possible with today’s technology. The Pininfarina Battista puts his skepticism to the test, but, I fear, Winkelmann may just be right.
