People are losing the cognitive and social skills they need for a thriving personal and professional life, says organizational psychologist Richard Davis. "We are at risk of losing this essential capability that I call receptivity," says Davis, the managing director of Toronto-based leadership consulting firm Russell Reynolds Associates. "It's the ability to have good judgment, to have insight about people, and it's a major concern." "It's a cognitive ability that you need to actually exercise in order to not lose it," he says. People's ability to talk to and connect with each other is similarly at risk, he says.

It's hard to make the meaningful connections you need to succeed at work. Four quick questions can change that, says organizational psychologist Richard Davis, who's spent almost two decades advising CEOs and clients ranging from the National Basketball Association to outerwear giant Canada Goose. "There are thousands and thousands of factors that you can boil down into five main traits of a person. You can unveil those personality traits by asking someone these four questions, Davis wrote in his book "Good Judgment," which published last week:Who was an early influencer of yours? "Doing some self reflection on the personality blueprint that I described is really, really helpful in order to actually characterize other people in the same way," says Davis.

New york CNN —The chief medical examiner’s office in Massachusetts has determined that a teenager who ate a tortilla chip containing a high concentration of a chemical compound found in chili peppers, died of a heart attack last September. Harris Wolobah, who had a congenital heart defect, was attempting Paqui’s ultra-spicy “One Chip Challenge” when he ingested the tortilla chip seasoned with both the Carolina Reaper pepper and the Naga Viper pepper. Paqui voluntarily pulled the product, which was packaged in a coffin-shaped box, off shelves following Wolobah’s death in September. The Carolina Reaper Pepper ranks just under pepper spray on the Scoville scale, which measures the pungency of peppers and chilis. The Naga Viper is a bit less pungent, coming in at around 1.2 million heat units on the scale.

“My commitment to the safety of the Jewish people, the security of Israel, and its right to exist as an independent Jewish state is ironclad. The former was appointed finance minister and was given responsibility for West Bank settlements. After the October 7 terrorist attack, Netanyahu had an opportunity to remove Smotrich and Ben Gvir from their posts when the first offer from the opposition for a unity government involved their elimination from the cabinet. It also gives license to followers of these extremists to, as we have seen, attack Palestinians in the West Bank and even to attack a Jordanian aid convoy. At the same time, Israel has continued with significant expansion of settlements on the West Bank.

Mr. Davis credited Mr. Dyett with pushing him to play across styles, and during high school he also studied with Rudolf Fahsbender of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He would go on to receive a bachelor’s degree in music education from the VanderCook College of Music in Chicago in 1952. As a young player in Chicago, he was mentored by local bassists like Wilbur Ware and Eddie Calhoun. While still in college, he performed with the pianist and bandleader Sun Ra, who at the time was still billed as Sonny Blount. His first major gig was with the pianist Ahmad Jamal in 1952.
