The New York Times Tech Guild announced Monday morning it is officially on an unfair labor practice strike, just one day before the high stakes presidential election. They work on the back-end of Times' products including games, recipes, podcasts and election coverage, according to the website. The NYT said they work on the business side of the company. The Times said that it has “robust plans in place to ensure that we are able to fulfill our mission and serve our readers.”The Times Tech Guild and NYT management negotiated through late Sunday, according to a report from the New York Times. Issues at the table included having a “just cause” provision in the guild contract, pay increases and pay equity, and return-to-office policies.

CNN —A New York judge ordered Donald Trump to pay $392,638 in legal fees to The New York Times after his failed lawsuit against the news outlet and its journalists over the disclosure of his tax information in a 2018 Times article, according to court documents. “The revised anti-SLAPP law was specifically designed to apply to lawsuits like this one,” Judge Reed wrote. Donald Trump alleges she broke a prior settlement agreement when she gave his tax records to the New York Times reporter. The judge also denied Mary Trump’s applications to be reimbursed for legal fees in that order. An attorney for Mary Trump declined to comment on the ruling Friday.

Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers about the series finale of “Billions,” titled “Admirals Fund.”After seven twisty seasons, with more double and triple crosses than you can shake a stock certificate at, “Billions” successfully landed the plane (OK, private jet) with its series finale, in a satisfying finish that reassembled the key players and even gave them time to take individual bows. For a show with so much bite and venom, it was oddly sentimental in generally the best of ways. The final season found a way to raise the stakes above high finance, with billionaire Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) running for president, exhibiting enough problematic qualities and questionable beliefs to inspire those within in his inner circle to turn against him and try to thwart his bid. If it wasn’t quite the game of catch scene from “Field of Dreams,” for these purposes the point was much the same. The “Billions” finale is playing on Paramount+ and will premiere October 29 on Showtime.

Felipe Villarroel, portfolio manager at TwentyFour Asset Management, said he recently swapped some 10-year Treasuries for higher yielding 30-year Treasuries. At these levels, yields give “a massive cushion in your total returns" to protect against bond prices falling further, he said. Yields on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury were over 4.95% in Asia trade on Thursday, their highest level in more than 16 years, and 30-year yields breached 5% this month for the first time since 2007. An auction of 30-year U.S. Treasuries showed weak demand last week, sending yields higher. "The tightness that (bond yields) are imposing on the economy and markets is rising ... this caps the extra work the Fed needs to do," said Smith.
