“I looked up and took a picture and made a joke about Jared’s, the jewelry store,” Ms. Carmichael said.

Ms. Carmichael, 40, is a fourth and fifth grade special education teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools and was also raised in Albuquerque.
She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and special education from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
“A few months in, we made the realization that many of the issues were because Spencer was not able to be his true self,” Ms. Carmichael said.
