This June and July, nights in Las Vegas stayed above 79 degrees for all but seven days. And hot nights are something more people are experiencing: No American major metro area has grown as much as Las Vegas has over the last three decades. Even after the sun set in Las Vegas in June and July, temperatures routinely remained in the 80s and 90s. Populations have doubled or more over a generation, with the number of abnormally hot nights rising at similar rates. Las Vegas Review-journal | Tribune News Service | Getty ImagesOn your next visit to Vegas, an extra set of eyes will be watching you if you decide to hop onto the local transit system. Violent crime on transit systems, specifically, remains an issue in major metro areas, with a report released in late 2023 by the Department of Transportation detailing concerns from transit agency officials around the U.S. about rising violence on their transit systems. Atteberry stressed that the ZeroEyes system is not designed to detect lawful, legal firearms that might be in a holster or packed in a purse. "AI technology comes from the data; if we do not capture the data, there is no successful AI," Dei said. ZeroEyesThe Las Vegas transit system is not the only in the nation to use ZeroEyes, but is the first to plan full deployment.

CENTRAL EUROPE'S PERKSMuch of Central and Eastern Europe has a reputation for being home to outdated heavy industry that once powered former Soviet enterprises and churned out low grade machinery and appliances. A more recent draw is the emissions profile of some of Central Europe's power sectors. Share of electricity from clean sources in select European countriesThose high proportions of clean power are well above the average for Europe as a whole, and are also above the average for the richer nations within the European Union. Power sector emissions from select Central & Eastern European CountriesHungary's power system is also primarily clean, with nearly half coming from nuclear and over 15% from solar. Comparatively low power sector emissions are expected to trend steadily down as the region rolls out more renewable energy supplies.

The governors of New York and New Jersey agreed last year to an even split of the local share of the cost of building the tunnel. That agreement was a critical precursor to obtaining federal funding for the project. Regional transportation officials have been in a hurry to secure a federal commitment to Gateway while President Biden is in office and Democrats have control of the Senate. Mr. Biden, a longtime rider of Amtrak trains between Washington and his home state of Delaware, has been an ardent supporter. Amtrak, which owns the tunnels, plans to shut those tracks for repairs, one at a time, once the new tunnel is in use.

New York CNN —A section of northbound I-95 in Philadelphia collapsed Sunday after a tanker truck caught fire underneath the highway. I-95 is an important artery for not only the East Coast, but for regional transportation and commuters in Philadelphia. Another analysis by the state’s Department of Employment and Economic Development and the transportation department found the economic loss was about $17 million in 2007 and $43 million in 2008. Morning commutesThe Philadelphia bridge collapse also brings up another question: How will commuters get to work? Advocates for public transport in Philadelphia look to Atlanta, when the Interstate-85 bridge collapsed in 2018 after a massive fire.

WASHINGTON, March 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is set to end on Friday mandatory COVID-19 tests for travelers from China, joining other countries in dropping the requirements, a source briefed on the matter told Reuters. The source told Reuters the United States would continue to monitor cases in China and around the world. The United States in early January joined India, Canada, Italy, Japan and other countries in taking new measures after Beijing's decision to lift stringent zero-COVID policies. The United States in December expanded its voluntary genomic sequencing program at airports, adding Seattle and Los Angeles. TGS will continue to monitor flights from the China and regional transportation hubs, as well as flights from more than 30 other countries, the source said.
This could translate to tens of thousands of bodies left behind — and many years of work for the body collectors. In 2014, when Russia invaded Crimea and the Donbas region of Ukraine, Yukov helped start the Black Tulip mission. The retrieval process is identical for Ukrainian and Russian bodies, Yukov said. Ukrainian bodies are returned as quickly as possible to their grieving families, while Russian bodies are transferred to Ukrainian government hands so that they can be exchanged for Ukrainians in the possession of Russian forces. Denys Sosnenko, a former Ukrainian national kickboxing champion also from Sloviansk, was killed driving over a buried anti-tank mine while on a Black Tulip mission.
Freelance finance writer Tony Dong made about $115,000 last year working 30 hours per week. But he also uses specific tools, including ChatGPT, to work more efficiently. Here are three tools Dong uses to do his job better and more efficiently. But if he's writing about something he's less familiar with he'll ask his AI assistant for help. There's also a premium version for $12 a month, which Dong uses: "It makes your writing more compelling and is worth the money."
