In this photo illustration, the OpenAI logo is displayed on a mobile phone screen with a photo of Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. OpenAI estimates that ChatGPT rejected more than 250,000 requests to generate images of the 2024 U.S. presidential candidates in the lead up to Election Day, the company said in a blog on Friday. The rejections included image-generation requests involving President-elect Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden, Minnesota Gov. The number of deepfakes has increased 900% year over year, according to data from Clarity, a machine learning firm. Lawmakers have been particularly concerned about misinformation in the age of generative AI, which took off in late 2022 with the launch of ChatGPT.

Neither the Minnesota Lynx nor the New York Liberty led by more than six points, and there were 14 lead changes and 13 ties. She sank both free throws to put Minnesota up two and secure the win. New York and Minnesota made clutch shot after clutch shot, with the Lynx ultimately having the final answer. The Liberty had 16 turnovers that led to 19 points for the Lynx, while Minnesota had 13 turnovers that led to 10 New York points. Though the Lynx missed five free throws, they attempted 11 more shots at the free throw line — much to Brondello’s dismay — and made six more free throws.

The new documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” reconstructs his life and career, ultimately rendering a sensitive, harrowing and incredibly human portrait of the man as actor, advocate, husband and father. “You don’t overcome grief, you live with grief,” Bonhôte said in a recent interview with CNN. Reeve also worked with the American Paralysis Association, which soon became the Christopher Reeve Foundation. Ettedgui, who identifies himself as “definitely a Superman kid,” was moved by Reeve’s obvious effect on those around him, but was also “struck” by his internal journey. 24-year-old American actor Christopher Reeve plays the comic-book hero as he mends a broken railway track in a scene from the film "Superman."

After a spectacular rookie season, Clark will now be tested by the trials and tribulations of the postseason for the first time. The White House wrote that image-based sexual abuse “has skyrocketed,” disproportionately affecting women, children and LGBTQ people. More nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfake videos were uploaded online in 2023 than all previous years combined. Franks said that while the voluntary efforts the White House highlighted are welcome, she does not see them as a substitute for legislation. Still, he said, the Biden administration’s and Vice President Kamala Harris’ focus on gender violence, online harassment and image-based sexual abuse was “transformative” compared with the work of previous administrations and the impact it has on victims and their advocates. On Google’s search engine and Microsoft’s Bing, NBC News previously found that nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfakes were available at the top of some search results.

Cameron Spencer | Getty ImagesThe U.S. and China each won 40 gold medals in the first Summer Games draw in Olympic history, with the Americans pulling into a tie Sunday with victory in the last event, women's basketball. China's Li Wenwen won gold in women's heavyweight weightlifting in what could have been a death knell for American hopes to capture overall gold. U.S. hopes were dimmed further when Chicago native Kennedy Blades, who made a surprising run to the gold medal wrestling match, lost to 76-kg rival Yuka Kagami of Japan. Paris CNN —It’s the final day of the Summer Olympics and the USA and China have tied in the overall gold medal rankings from these 2024 Summer Olympics. While Team USA is far ahead in the total medal rankings with 126 in Paris, it went into the last competition of the Games trailing China in the gold medal race by one. The Asian nation finished with 40 gold medals, and the US had 39 entering the final event – the women’s basketball gold medal game between Team USA and France. Team USA would win that game in dramatic circumstances, leading to a tie in the gold medal standings. In 2021, Team USA took the overall gold medal race by one, with 39 to China’s 38.

PARIS — France was the official opponent; Team USA, its own worst enemy. And against an eager, home-crowd boosted team like France, it sure looked like the U.S. picked a bad game to have a bad game. This was not the kind of game that Team USA had built its reputation on and not the kind of play that looked worthy of eight consecutive gold medals, let alone one. AdvertisementThe chemistry and flow that showed itself in spurts throughout the Olympics seemed to be missing in the most important game. On Sunday night in Paris, Team USA extended its win streak, secured another gold medal and stayed atop the world.

CNN —The head coach and players of Team USA’s women’s basketball endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid on Wednesday. Harris took over the Democratic nomination earlier this month after President Joe Biden decided to end his reelection bid and endorse his No. The players on Team USA – and the WNBA in general –have been far more willing to engage in political statements than some of their other professional sports peers. Harris had visited the men’s basketball team during their training camp ahead of the Games. “If she’s on the ticket winning the election, like it’s, it’s a big, big deal to say the least and she represents the Bay Area,” Curry said last week.

So, yes, per usual, Team USA has more than a few advantages in these Olympic Games even before mentioning the legacy this team carries into these games. AdvertisementTeam USA hasn’t lost a single Olympic game (including pool play) since the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. So, to say that this Team USA women’s basketball team doesn’t know anything except Olympic gold medals isn’t just a figure of speech. “Talent is not going to be the reason why we win,” Cheryl Reeve says of Team USA. It’s the Team USA way, and nothing less.

I found out during a live comedy show that the former president had been shot at. The second comic confirmed what the first one said, and joked that if this had happened in another era, they probably would have canceled the show. But at this point we’re all so primed for political chaos and inured to news of fresh violence that the audience — including me — barely reacted. From the right, that it was the result of a deep-state plot.
