CNN —Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett stands apart. And that is why Barrett has become the best hope for what remains of the liberal wing, particularly after Trump’s election victory. As Trump returns to the White House, the Supreme Court may be even more positioned to check the balance of powers. Nonetheless, progressives have few options, and an uncertain horizon, and cannot help but imbue Barrett with hope. “As Justice Barrett said…,” is a common Kagan refrain, too.

After Biden withdrew from the race, Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt, a Republican, wrote letters to Harris and the Cabinet officials in the Biden administration, asking them to remove Biden from office. To forcibly wrest power from a sitting president, the vice president would have to be on board, according to the text of the amendment. Why do we have the 25th Amendment? That was before the 25th Amendment, so there was no constitutional rule.

A national committee is typically overhauled after the party has a de facto or official presidential nominee. The changes normally come in the form of a new chairperson or a top official from the presidential campaign moving over to the committee. These resources are critical to Trump’s campaign as it makes plans to build out teams in key battleground states such as Michigan, Georgia, Arizona and Pennsylvania in the coming weeks and months. “The Republican National Committee will be focused like a laser on getting out the vote and protecting the ballot,” Whatley said in his remarks Friday. Trump’s senior advisers, including LaCivita, insist they have no plans to use the RNC to help pay his legal expenses.

In the post-debate polling, Mr. Trump gained more support than any of the candidates who did appear on the stage. Since then, as his legal cases play out in the courts, Mr. Trump has grown more extreme, and violent, in his rhetoric. It remains to be seen whether the second debate will persuade top donors still on the sidelines to consolidate behind an alternative to Mr. Trump. Rather than attending the debate, Mr. Trump will appear with union workers in Detroit. A bad night, or just an invisible night, for Mr. Scott would dim hopes of a resurgence.

Donald Trump suggested he might not attend a GOP presidential debate at the Reagan Library. On Truth Social, Trump criticized the venue's board chair, who publishes the Washington Post. But, Trump participated in a debate at the same location, with the same board chair, back in 2015. But, despite his misgivings about Ryan's role on the board, Trump did participate in a previous GOP presidential debate at the Reagan Library in 2015. It's unclear if Trump actually plans to skip the Reagan Library debate, the date of which has not yet been announced.
