Payments processing company Block is one of Bernstein's favorite stocks heading into 2025. Analyst Harshita Rawat, who holds an outperform rating on the stock, raised her price target on shares to $120 from $90. It also owns digital wallet company Cash App and buy-now-pay-later company Afterpay. "Looking into 2025, we see potential for mid-teens gross profit growth driven by incentives around increasing direct deposit penetration (the #1 driver of long-term growth), growth in borrow and commerce initiatives (e.g., Cash App and Afterpay on Cash App Card). The stock also has the potential for inclusion in the broad market S & P 500 index, she added.

"But SQ has also come under regulators' scrutiny (FinCen, CFPB) recently around its Cash App and Afterpay businesses. The president-elect has taken a pro-crypto stance during his time on the campaign trail , pledging to ensure that the federal government does not sell off its bitcoin holdings. A more favorable regulatory environment could also spell gains for Visa , which has rallied around 19% this year, according to Bernstein. "While it is unlikely that the DOJ pulls the case, it's possible that President-elect Trump names a more pro-business Head, who might be more amenable to a weaker settlement with Visa." That stock has seen the biggest year-to-date gains of the three, rising around 24%.

Lucknow, India AP —A poorly maintained and overcrowded bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in northern India on Monday, killing at least 36 people and injuring several others, officials said. The bus was carrying around 60 people, and more than 20 have been injured, said Deepak Rawat, a senior state government official. He added that preliminary information suggested that the dilapidated bus skidded before tumbling down a 60 meter- (200-foot-) -deep gorge. In July, at least 18 people died after a double-decker passenger bus collided with a milk truck in Uttar Pradesh state. In May, a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims skidded and rolled into a deep gorge on a mountainous highway in Indian-controlled Kashmir, killing at least 21 people.

After nearly three years of underperformance, PayPal is finally on track for positive momentum, according to Bernstein. Analyst Harshita Rawat upgraded shares to outperform, the first upgrade following a downgrade to market perform in 2021. When Bernstein downgraded PayPal three years ago, the firm cited concerns about rising competition, structural changes in the e-commerce sector and weak execution that was hurting the company's gross profit. Those fears materialized, with PayPal shares losing approximately 75% of their value since late July 2021. PayPal shares are up 8.3% in 2024, lagging the S & P 500's 15.9% gain.

The company, Marion Biotech, bought the ingredient — propylene glycol (PG) — from trader Maya Chemtech India, as reported by Reuters. "Marion bought commercial-grade propylene glycol," said a second source, an investigator, who declined to be named while the inquiry is ongoing. International standards allow only trace amounts of EG and DEG in pharmaceutical-grade propylene glycol. The toxins were found in cough syrups exported to Gambia by the other Indian company, Maiden Pharmaceuticals. India made it mandatory for companies to have their cough syrups tested before export from June.
