CNN —Dangerous wildfires are burning on the East and West coasts Monday, with firefighters in New York and New Jersey working to contain a deadly blaze spurred by an ongoing, historic drought – while strong winds in Southern California could fan a destructive fire in Ventura County. Nearly 600 wildfires have burned nearly 7,000 acres in New Jersey and New York since October 1, according to officials. Kamberlyn Bowler, 15, said she ate McDonald's Quarter Pounders in the days before she became ill.At least 75 people have been infected with E. coli in an outbreak that McDonald's has said is likely linked to slivered onions served on Quarter Pounders. LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge has recommended that conservative attorney John Eastman lose his California law license over his efforts to keep former President Donald Trump in power after the 2020 election. State Bar Court of California Judge Yvette Roland's recommendation, issued Wednesday, now goes to the California Supreme Court for a final ruling on whether he should be disbarred. The California State Bar is a regulatory agency and the only court system in the U.S. that is dedicated to attorney discipline. Eastman has been a member of the California Bar since 1997, according to its website. He ran for California attorney general in 2010, finishing second in the Republican primary.

So-called bond vigilantes - investors who punish profligate governments by selling their bonds, driving yields higher - were a feature of markets in the 1990s, when concerns over U.S. federal spending pushed Treasury yields to 8%. Strong economic growth has spurred expectations that the Federal Reserve will leave rates higher for longer, pushing Treasury yields this month to their highest levels since 2007. REUTERS/Adrees LatifNEW YORK, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Michael Burry, the money manager made famous in the book and film "The Big Short," held bearish options against the broad S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 Index at the end of the second quarter, according to securities fillings released on Monday. Put options convey the right to sell shares at a fixed price in the future and are typically bought to express a bearish or defensive view. Michael Lewis' nonfiction book "The Big Short" was released in 2010 and the movie version came out in 2015. The S&P 500 (.SPX) is up roughly 17% for the year to date while the Nasdaq 100 (.IXIC) is up nearly 39% over the same period. Burry, who frequently turns over his portfolio, drew wide attention last August when he dumped all of his long positions and bought a stake in prison company Geo Group Inc (GEO.N).

Randall “passed away peacefully” following a private three-year battle with ALS, his family said in a statement to People magazine. “Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request,” his family said in their statement.
