GM said it was disappointed by the UAW strike at Spring Hill and that it still seeks "to reach an agreement as quickly as possible." Spring Hill Manufacturing, an assembly and propulsion plant, is the largest GM facility in North America with nearly 4,000 total employees. A lengthy Spring Hill strike could greatly increase the financial pain for GM, which said in a filing earlier this week that strike costs had risen to $400 million a week. Moments before employees walked out in Tennessee, the UAW said it reached a tentative labor agreement with Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI). The UAW previously struck GM assembly plants in Missouri and Michigan as well as 18 parts distribution warehouses.

The company delivered just 1,348 Lyriqs and 47 Hummers in the second quarter, far below expectations, in part because of issues with battery module assembly. A longer strike could help GM address and potentially resolve some of those ongoing issues in its EV and battery operations, according to Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions. "A production stoppage could allow GM to solve bottlenecks,” Fiorani said. Wedbush auto analyst Daniel Ives said the strike was "a potential nightmare situation" for GM given it comes exactly at a key period of ironing out EV issues. In addition, the UAW strike in the United States could affect the flow of critical auto parts to GM operations in Canada and Mexico, which would hamper EV production there, Rinna said.

MONTERREY, Mexico, Nov 16 (Reuters) - General Motors' Mexico head Francisco Garza foresees just 15% of the vehicles produced in the country in 2030 as being electric, missing the goal given by Mexican officials, he said Wednesday. GM is already in talks with the Mexican government at local, state and federal levels to boost EV production, Garza said. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and other officials have repeatedly touted that Mexico is on track to meet or even exceed the goal of turning 50% of automotive production electric by 2030. However, Garza said Wednesday the government's official goal was to reach 30% of production by 2030. A spokesperson for the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) told Reuters the goal was between 30% and 50%.

But the Dodge Charger and the closely related Challenger are offered with those far more powerful supercharged engines. Those models are using all the supercharged engines the Mexican factory can make, said Elshoff.

April 19 (Reuters) - Magna International and LG Electronics are constructing a factory in the Mexican city of Ramos Airzpe that will supply electric vehicle components to General Motors Co, starting in 2023. The plant, which is being built by the LG Magna e-Powertrain joint venture, will make EV motors, inverters and on-board chargers. GM said a year ago that it planned to invest more than $1 billion in its Ramos Arizpe assembly plant, which will begin building EVs in 2023. The automaker has not said where it plans to build the new electric versions of those vehicles, which are due to begin production in 2023. LG Magna e-Powertrain said its new facility will be the joint venture's first production base in North America and is expected to create 400 jobs.
