BlackRock's iShares is trying to appeal to investors who want to diversify beyond from the so-called Magnificent Seven. The firm launched the iShares Top 20 U.S. Stocks ETF (TOPT) this month. It doesn't just hold the Magnificent Seven — Apple , Amazon , Meta , Alphabet , Microsoft , Nvidia and Tesla . It's made up of the 20 largest U.S. stocks by market capitalization. Aguirre, the firm's head of U.S. iShares product, noted the ETF's mission is to deliver an easy and accessible way to tap into the innovation of megacaps – "whether that be in the tech-heavy Nasdaq space or, more broadly, within the S&P [500]."

There were 68 active fund launches in the third quarter as of Sept. 22, compared to 49 indexed fund launches, according to CFRA. Passive funds still make up the majority of the ETF market, and they typically cost less than active products. JEPI, the biggest active ETF, has underperformed the S & P 500 this year but is still attracting new cash. "One of the problems with straightforward active funds, and we do run some straightforward active funds, is that very often ... you are tethered to that broad index, whatever happens to be in that. Abbott's firm launched five new active funds last week, including the Matthews Japan Active ETF (JPAN) .

BlackRock's Flexible Income ETF (BINC) began trading Tuesday and is managed by Rick Rieder, the firm's chief investment officer of global fixed income. The actively managed fund has a net expense ratio of 0.40%. "For the average investor, it's pretty hard to differentiate in fixed income. The fund holds fixed income from multiple sectors, including high-yield bonds, European investment-grade debt and emerging market debt. The BlackRock Large Cap Value ETF (BLCV) is managed by Tony DeSpirito, the firm's global chief investment officer of fundamental equities.
