More than 4,000 people have descended here for the Future Proof conference , a vast social gathering designed to give younger registered investment advisors and other investment professionals access to what they want. What they want, apparently, is an intense desire to network with other RIAs and investment professionals and find ways to grow their business. Reimagining the financial conference Future Proof is the brainchild of Barry Ritholtz, co-founder, chairman, and chief investment officer of Ritholtz Wealth Management, and CEO Josh Brown. This is the third year for the conference, but Ritholtz and company have been doing conferences for 15 years. Ritholtz describes it as an ongoing project to reinvent the financial conference concept, which he says is "moribund."

CNN —People applying for naturalization in Germany will now be required to affirm Israel’s right to exist, under changes to the country’s citizenship law. The country’s naturalization exam will now include a number of new questions, according to a statement from the interior ministry. “In response to increasing antisemitism in Germany, the list of questions in the naturalization test has been expanded. New exam questions have been added on the topics of antisemitism, the right of the state of Israel to exist and Jewish life in Germany,” it said. ‘A crystal clear red line’The legislation is being introduced nationwide after the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt also required citizenship applicants to recognize Israel’s right to exist in December.

For the $30 trillion advised wealth management industry, the floodgates could be about to open. In a report on its website in October, Galaxy Digital said the "strongest marginal improvement" occurred when portfolios moved from a 0% to 1% bitcoin allocation.

BERLIN (AP) — A group tracking antisemitism in Germany said Tuesday that it documented a drastic increase of antisemitic incidents in the country in the month after Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7. The RIAS group said it recorded 994 incidents, which is an average of 29 incidents per day and an increase of 320% compared to the same time period in 2022. Many Jews in Germany experienced antisemitic incidents in their everyday lives and even those who weren't exposed to any antisemitic incidents reported feelings of insecurity and fear, said RIAS, which is an abbreviation in German for the Department for Research and Information on Antisemitism. RIAS said that 59 reported incidents related to homes or people's living environment. Jewish students reported cases in which fellow students blamed them personally for Israel’s politics.

Scholz was speaking at a ceremony at a Berlin synagogue to mark "Kristallnacht" alongside Jewish leaders. "Every form of antisemitism poisons our society," said Scholz, who was wearing a kippah, the traditional Jewish cap, as is customary in a synagogue for men. A 10-minute video by German Economy Minister Robert Habeck expressing concern over rising antisemitism went viral last week. Indeed, new citizenship rules make clear that anyone who is antisemitic cannot receive German citizenship, Scholz said on Thursday. It was one of the world’s 10 largest Jewish centres, and many of Germany’s leading scientists were Berlin Jews.

Banks typically provide research to clients as part of a broader offering of services, but that changed when the European Union introduced the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) II laws in 2018 to improve transparency. "It took about a year for us to become compliant to MiFID II laws -- it was a long, intense process," said Candace Browning, head of BofA Global Research. U.S. financial firms were initially given an exemption by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which expires on July 3. "Companies continue to face challenges complying with the MiFID II unbundling requirement and U.S. law," said Joe Corcoran, SIFMA's managing director and associate general counsel for capital markets. 'EXPENSIVE AND COMPLICATED' In Europe, asset managers under MiFID II are not allowed to pay for research through broker commissions on trading -- instead, investors are billed separately by banks for research.

The unraveling of fintech darling Vise
  + stars: | 2023-03-03 | by ( Stephanie Palazzolo | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +28 min
It was April, and more than two dozen salespeople who worked for the fintech startup Vise had been ordered to a multiday off-site at the W Hoboken hotel in New Jersey to share exhaustive reports on their performance. Even salespeople at bigger, established, top-tier investment-management firms typically wouldn't close $250 million in a year, multiple sales employees said. (K-means clustering is an unsupervised machine-learning algorithm often referred to as a form of AI, Vise's founders said). (Vise's founders disputed this, saying the company received updated financial data only once a day for its portfolio-construction engine.) And to address its "leaky funnel" of overestimating prospective sales, Vise was to stop outreach to new clients while it onboards and upsells to existing clients, the document said.
In many ways, it's easier to become a brain surgeon than a Goldman partner (doctors, please spare me your hate mail). Unlike other esteemed white-collar groups — the partners at law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore, for example — turnover is somewhat common within the Goldman partnership. Insider's Carter Johnson and Dakin Campbell took a look at how many partners have left the bank since CEO David Solomon took over in 2018. In many ways, it's demonstrative of the allies the bank has across the Street. Former Goldman partners can be like missionaries for the bank, spreading the good word to anyone who will listen (and paying their fees).
She inquired about buying Treasury bonds directly, which she has never once inquired about in the past. Asking about putting all your money into bonds and chucking the stock market is like the shoeshine boy talking about stock market tips at the top of the stock market. Individuals can of course buy Treasury bonds directly from the U.S. government through TreasuryDirect. Similar products, such as the Schwab Short-Term U.S. Treasury ETF and the SPDR Portfolio Short Term Treasury ETF, also have seen significant inflows in recent months. "ETFs for Treasurys are preferred by many, basically all because they trade like a stock," Morris told me.
Everyone here is amazed at how forgotten segments of the market have rebounded in 2023: international, growth, small cap and bonds. Advisors here are having a hard time wrapping their heads around the idea that there would be a recession ins 2023, and now maybe not. "With real wage growth, large payroll growth and earnings beating expectations it equals a soft landing at worst and maybe no recession near term." Most advisors here are coming to grips with Powell's insistence the Fed will not lower rates this year. Their Equal Weight S & P 500 ETF (RSP) has also attracted significant inflows from investors wary of market cap weighted indexes.

Some hedge funds, wealth managers, and asset managers are still hiring. Layoffs across industries have been dominating headlines in January, and Wall Street has been no exception. Big-name hedge funds like Citadel, D. E. Shaw, and Millennium Management posted double digits in a year that many other investment managers would rather soon forget. Alternative asset managers, meanwhile, are hiring in the private-wealth-management businesses they've spent recent years building out. Emily Landon, the CEO of the Chicago-based headhunting firm The Crypto Recruiter, pointed to the job board Crypto Careers, which has over 2,400 openings.
RIAs are solving the problem of limited tech integration by creating their own overlay tools. An abundance of wealth management-focused fintechs to choose from combined with a lack of integration between systems has led some advisory firms scrambling to piece them all together. In turn, the company decided to make that a value proposition by taking customers' data and entering it into a database for them. Once those customers created a Redshift data warehouse, they then could connect with Orion's warehouse and pull their data from there. Orion met with AWS' strategic-partnerships team and walked them through their use cases of applying Redshift technology.

Once the initial list was compiled, weightings were also applied accordingly. These data points included:
