Moore, along with Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders—were suspended indefinitely, through at least 2023, for betting on NFL games this past season. Detroit released Cephus and Moore when their suspensions were announced.

The league suspended Lions receivers Jameson Williams, Quintez Cephus, Stanley Berryhill and safety CJ Moore, and Washington Commanders' defensive end Shaka Toney. Williams and Berryhill are suspended for the team's first six regular season games of the 2023 season. "The gambling policy, which is annually reviewed with all NFL personnel, including players, prohibits anyone in the NFL from engaging in any form of gambling in any club or league facility or venue, including the practice facility." The Lions added that Berryhill and Williams were suspended for betting from an NFL facility on non-NFL games.

Five NFL players have been suspended for violating the National Football League's gambling policy, the league announced today. The policy bars anyone in the NFL from engaging in any kind of gambling in league facilities or venues, including practice facilities. The league said its review uncovered no evidence that inside information was used in the gambling at hand. Two other players — Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams of the Lions — are suspended from their team's first six regular season games of the year. Berryhill and Williams will be able to participate in offseason and preseason activities, including preseason games.
