NBC NewsGaza’s water system relies heavily on wells and desalination plants, but much of that infrastructure has been decimated. The aid group Oxfam International estimated last month that all of Gaza’s desalination plants and 88% of its water wells had been destroyed or damaged. Alaa Al-Bata, the mayor of Khan Younis, said at least 30 water wells in southern Gaza were destroyed last month. The virus can spread in various ways, including via drinking water contaminated with feces from a person who’s infected.
