A "Shrek" sequel has been rumored for years, but fans were beginning to lose hope after "Shrek Forever After" provided a neat finish to the story. Dohrn was a writer and artist on "Shrek 2" and "Shrek the Third," was the head of the story on "Shrek Forever After," and the voice of Rumpelstiltskin in the latter film. The movie's producers are Gina Shay, who produced "Shrek Forever After," and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri. There are no details yet on the plot or how it will follow "Shrek Forever After." Dreamwork Animation set "Shrek 5" to premiere on July 1, 2026, so we will likely hear more details about the plot soon.

Everyone’s favorite ogre is heading back to town, with the the latest movie in the “Shrek” franchise set for release in mid-2026. Movie studio Dreamworks Animation confirmed in a post on X that “Shrek 5” will hit the big screen on July 1, 2026 – 16 years after the previous episode was released. The first “Shrek” movie was a smash hit when it was released in 2001, spawning sequels “Shrek 2” in 2004, “Shrek the Third” in 2007 and “Shrek Forever After” in 2010. There was also a spinoff “Puss in Boots” movie featuring the outlaw cat voiced by Antonio Banderas, released in 2011, with a sequel – “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” – released in 2022. The franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, to the extent that shoe brand Crocs released a Shrek Croc in 2023 and a recreation of Shrek’s swamp home was listed for rent on Airbnb last September.

CNN —The nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday. Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva, two of the stars from “Lopez vs. Lopez,” announced the range of film and television nominees as selected by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Favored Oscars contender “The Banshees of Inisherin” led the film categories, with nominations including best musical or comedy film. It stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The ceremony, which was not broadcast last January over controversy surrounding the HFPA, will return to NBC on Jan. 10.

CNN —In the age of reboots, revivals and prequels, Antonio Banderas is sharing thoughts on who would make a great choice to follow in his masked footsteps as the legendary Zorro. The actor, who played the swashbuckling hero in 1998’s “The Mask of Zorro” and sequel “The Legend of Zorro” in 2005, said his “Uncharted” costar Tom Holland would be a perfect fit for the role, in a video interview published Saturday with Comicbook.com. “He’s so energetic and fun,” Banderas said of Holland. “He’s got this spark, too.”The “Zorro” films, which were directed by Martin Campbell, costarred Catherine Zeta-Jones. While the “Zorro” franchise currently has no solid projects in development, Banderas is currently doing press for another sequel, the upcoming DreamWorks animated movie “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.”In that film, Banderas again voices the debonair feline character he originated in the “Shrek” movies, following 2011’s feature-length “Puss in Boots.”
