Dutch technology investor Prosus core headline earnings jumped 84% in the year to March 31, helped by a strong performance in e-commerce operations, it said on Monday. Its core headline earnings were $5.0 billion, compared with $2.7 billion a year earlier, the company said. The company recently appointed the head of its food delivery business iFood as its new CEO effective from July. The group's free cash-flow roughly tripled year-on-year to $524 million, also helped by e-commerce and the performance of its key investment, Chinese tech giant Tencent.

The firm is overweight on Tencent shares, with a price target of 400 Hong Kong dollars ($51). Also helping analysts' optimism on the stock are Tencent's share buybacks. HSBC has a buy rating on Tencent, with a target price of 385 Hong Kong dollars. Pan said that low liquidity in Hong Kong has also affected share prices in that market, but he hopes that can improve with a new CEO. The Hong Kong exchange's co-COO Bonnie Chan is set to become head of the business in late May.

It was most recently slashed to $1 billion, after BlackRock downsized its holdings in Byju's last month, according to media reports. Last Friday, major Byju's shareholders, including Netherlands-based global investment group Prosus, voted to oust founder Byju Raveendran as chief executive officer. Investors who attended an extraordinary general meeting "unanimously passed all resolutions put forward for vote," which also sought to change the board, according to a statement Prosus sent CNBC. "As the founders did not participate in the meeting, the quorum was never legitimately established, rendering the resolutions null and void."

Now, the company has come out the gate with $9 million in seed funding in a round co-led by NEA and Prosus Ventures. "You often need an entire AI team to go and test and evaluate these models," Ginsburg said. Going forward, Ginsberg and Upadhyay hope to attract more enterprise customers and continue their research into AI models to make routing even more efficient and "build more awesome tooling." REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration Acquire Licensing RightsAMSTERDAM, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Prosus NV (PRX.AS), a large technology investor, said on Wednesday its core headline earnings increased 118% in the first half of 2024, citing improved profitability in its stable of e-commerce investments. Core headline earnings for the half year ended on Sept. 30 were $2.0 billion, from $1.1 billion in the same period a year earlier, in line with a Nov. 20 trading statement. Core headlines earnings is a nonstandard measure the company says best reflects its group operating performance. It includes the massive stake Prosus owns in China's Tencent (0700.HK), which the company said has been sold down from 26.2% to 25% to fund a rolling share buyback program. Prosus says share buybacks benefit shareholders because the Tencent stake, now worth $98 billion, is worth about 30% more than Prosus itself.

Prosus cuts India's Byju's valuation to under $3 billion

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration Acquire Licensing RightsMUMBAI, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Tech investor Prosus NV (PRX.AS) said on Wednesday it was valuing Indian education firm Byju's at under $3 billion, 86% less than its peak valuation of $22 billion last year, after the company struggled with governance and cash-flow problems. The disclosure, made by interim CEO Ervin Tu during Prosus earnings call, is the latest cut to Byju's valuation after several executives and board members quit and it delayed filing its 2021/22 financial results by a year. Over the past year, shareholders including Prosus and Blackrock have successively cut Byju's valuation to $11 billion in March, $8 billion in May and $5 billion in June. It has delayed publishing its financial results, prompting auditor Deloitte and three board members quit in June. Byju's filed the delayed but incomplete financial results earlier this month, and is looking to sell off entire business lines to raise cash.

The hot new business class ticket within Asia is in fact, Hong Kong to Mumbai. Before the pandemic, more than half of the Asian top line of U.S. bulge bracket banks typically came from Greater China which includes the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Overall, IPO fees in India have risen from 1% of proceeds in 2017 closer to 2% in recent years, LSEG data shows. Hong Kong bankers are not going to relocate to India any time soon but while they wait out a slow and uncertain recovery in China activity, the trip to India looks increasingly worthwhile. Proceeds from initial public offerings in India amounted to $3.8 billion across 172 deals as of Oct. 24, according to LSEG data.

A health tech startup using AI to make patient care more accurate and efficient just secured a $60 million Series B round co-led by Prosus Ventures and Atomico. Copenhagen-based Corti, founded in 2016, has developed an AI assistant that analyzes patient consultations in real-time and reduces administrative work. Its widget sits on a doctor or nurse's computer, records conversations, and analyses them in real-time to support the medical practitioner's decision-making. Cleve said healthcare had become "very fragmented" and that there was pressure from "personnel deficits everywhere" with burnout becoming endemic. It will also keep investing in research and development, improving medical practitioners' workflows, and generative AI.

CNBC Pro takes a look at the bank's two screens of "the most and least vulnerable" stocks: one for "cash-rich" companies and the other for "high leverage" names. 'Cash-rich' names HSBC named "cash-rich companies relatively immune to rising borrowing rates." HSBC's screens in this category include French luxury goods label Hermes International , with a net debt of 9,222 euros ($9,834.11), British food processing company Associated British Foods (net debt of 1,709.39 euros) and Swiss biotech player Bachem Holding (net debt of 271.15 euros). Names with high debt HSBC also screened for companies with high leverage, meaning high net debt to equity and net debt to EBITDA ratios. Companies with high debt are seen to be vulnerable to further rises in interest rates.

Dutch-listed technology investor Prosus NV and its South African parent Naspers said on Monday Bob van Dijk has stepped down as chief executive officer from both companies. Van Dijk, who has led Naspers since 2014 and Prosus since 2019, has agreed to remain as a consultant until Sept. 30, 2024, the companies said in a statement. Ervin Tu will assume the role of interim chief executive of both companies. Prosus CEO exit leaves Tencent elephant in room

REUTERS/Siphiwe Sibeko Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Sept 18 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Bob van Dijk is passing an unsolved problem to his successor. The Tencent stake that it owns made up about 75% of the group’s $130 billion portfolio value as of Sept. 15. His workaround was to instead sell little chunks of Tencent shares, and use the proceeds to buy back Prosus stock. Still, the gap reflects shareholders’ ongoing struggles to value Prosus. Neither Prosus nor the 50-year-old van Dijk gave a reason for his exit, but the persistence of the discount won’t have helped.

Bob van Dijk Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesThe immediate and mutually agreed departure of Naspers and Prosus CEO Bob van Dijk underscores a complicated few years for a firm seen riding on the coattails of its holdings in Chinese tech giant, Tencent . The South African Reserve Bank gave Naspers the greenlight to begin buying back more of its shares from Prosus. 'Getting rid' of the cross holdingPrior to the current structure, Naspers (headquartered in South Africa) owned a third of Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings. Van Dijk oversaw the decision to split off its holding of Tencent and other tech holdings into Prosus in 2019. But that crossholding offered little value to investors with van Dijk telling Reuters at the time: "They [shareholders] said we don't like this cross holding, it creates complexity.

However it coincides with the unwinding Monday of a cross-structure between Prosus and Naspers. Van Dijk oversaw Prosus's 2019 IPO and the company's stock boomed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The biggest lesson may be for the Indian education giant’s global investors including Prosus (PRX.AS) and Peak XV, formerly part of Sequoia, who watched founder power run amok in a country they have pinned high hopes on. But so long as the blowup at the hot startup once valued at $22 billion goes from bad to worse, its backers will struggle to create enough distance. For early supporter Peak XV Partners, the mess comes at a sensitive time, hot on the heels of announcing a separation from its U.S. parent.
