It's similar to how Google Lens directs users to suggestions based on items captured by their camera. The tool is trained on data from PriceRunner, a price comparison service Klarna acquired for close to $1 billion. PriceRunner competes with the likes of Amazon , Google's shopping comparison service Google Shopping, and French-founded firm Kelkoo. Klarna users will be able to point their phone at an item of clothing or gadget and find recommendations on similar products directly within the Klarna app. Still, regulators, not least the European Union, have become wary about the rapid advancement of generative AI technology, which generates new material in response to human inputs.

Research from energy supplier Utilita shows that an electric oven costs more than £315 a year, whereas an air fryer costs around £53. Tesco, Britain's biggest grocer, said in October sales of air fryers have skyrocketed by 200% year-on-year as customer look for more energy-efficient options. Tesco will receive an extra 40,000 air fryers before Christmas because of the demand, it added. Sky News reported that price comparison website PriceRunner said sales of some air fryers were up 2,000% since the summer.

BRUSSELS, Oct 17 (Reuters) - More than 40 European rivals to Google's shopping service urged EU antitrust regulators on Monday to use newly adopted tech rules to ensure the Alphabet unit complies with a 2017 EU order to allow more competition on its search page. The European Commission fined Google 2.4 billion euros ($2.33 billion) five years ago and told the firm to stop favouring its shopping service. The company subsequently said it would treat its own shopping service the same as competitors when they bid in an auction for adverts in the shopping box that appears at the top of a search page. "Google's prominent embedding of Shopping Units is a prima facie infringement of the DMA's ban on self-preferencing," they said. The most paramount case at the heart of the calls for the DMA needs to be brought to an effective end," the companies, from 20 European countries, said.
