A U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter crashed on Monday near Potrero, an area in the far southeastern reaches of San Diego County close to the U.S.-Mexico border, killing the pilot, according to CBP. The CBP Air and Marine Operations aircraft crashed during a border security mission north of state Route 94 and two miles south of Barrett Lake around 10 a.m., according to a CBP spokesperson. One CBP Air Interdiction Agent, who was the pilot and sole person aboard the aircraft, was killed in the crash, CBP said. Katz said the flight track shows the pilot flying erratically before crashing, but the track log doesn’t suggest anything was wrong with the helicopter itself. The Air and Marine Operations is a separate component of CBP, a spokesperson with the agency clarified to NBC 7.

New York CNN —Anchor Brewing, America’s oldest craft brewer, closed last summer after more than 127 years in business. Anchor closed in July 2023 and its former parent company Sapporo USA put it up for sale after facing years of declining sales. Despite Ulukaya’s excitement about reviving the 127-year-old brand, the craft beer business has been in decline as drinkers shift to spirits and cheaper alternatives. “The brand struggled because it kept relevance with longtime, committed craft beer enthusiasts, but rarely registered with young people or casual drinkers,” Roth said. “Focusing on Anchors legacy, stature, and part of American craft beer history could help the brewery form new emotional connections with drinkers.”

Daniel Lurie, an heir to the Levi Strauss clothing fortune, announced on Tuesday that he would run against Mayor London Breed of San Francisco next year, at a time when the city is struggling to overcome a number of crises in its downtown core. Mr. Lurie, 46, planned to launch his campaign Tuesday at a community center in the city’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, a longtime working-class area now dotted with multimillion-dollar homes and upscale shops. Breed may be vulnerable in her bid for re-election and may have lost the support of some moderate allies. Mr. Lurie said in an interview that he intended to campaign on solving the city’s quality-of-life problems, and that he blames Ms. He said that he decided to run for mayor when he was walking his 9-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter to school, and they saw a man stumbling down the street, naked and screaming.

Person's hand holding bottle of California Lager from Anchor Brewing Company, maker of Anchor Steam Beer, Lafayette, California, July 12, 2023. A spokesperson for the Brewers Association, which represents more than 5,400 brewers, distributors and craft beer retailers, said the trade group doesn't normally, by policy, comment on the opening or closing of any beer company. But the impending closure of Anchor Brewing — an iconic San Francisco staple as famous as sourdough bread, Ghirardelli Chocolate or Rice-A-Roni — prompted it to offer a heartfelt eulogy. "Anchor's contributions to craft brewing and American beer history cannot be overstated," chief economist Bart Watson said in a statement. Anchor Brewing was purchased in 2017 by Sapporo U.S.A. A representative for the company couldn't immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
