Postal Service. Trump nodded toward a possible move to privatize the Postal Service at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. Asked about the agency, Trump said privatization was “not the worst idea I’ve ever heard,” adding that “we’re looking” at it. The Postal Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump's remarks. The Postal Service ranks second only to the National Park Service in popularity among government entities, according to a survey this year by the Pew Research Center.

New York CNN —Three things seem certain to happen in life: death, taxes and the prices of stamps going up. The United States Postal Service announced that First-Class postage, currently at 73 cents, will go up five times through 2027, according to a detailed document submitted this week to the Postal Regulatory Commission. The next price hike is planned for July 2025 and will then repeat “each January and July thereafter” through the end of 2027, the agency said. However, all price changes must be approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission and the specific price hikes weren’t announced. First-Class mail is becoming a smaller part of the Postal Service’s business because of online communication.

USPS will work “around the clock” and implement “extraordinary measures” to ensure the timely delivery of mail-in voting, DeJoy said. A record 43% of voters cast mail ballots in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. The level isn’t expected to be as high this year, but many states across the country have expanded the availability of mail-in voting. The USPS says during the 2020 election, which was conducted amid the Covid-19 pandemic, it delivered nearly 99% of ballots from voters to election officials within seven days. Specifically, the election officials said they’ve experienced “exceptionally long delivery times” for election mail, including ballots, which could lead to those ballots getting rejected because they didn’t arrive before the deadline.

CNN —Kate Winslet doesn’t mind being recognized for her work, but she wants it to be realistic. In an interview with Time magazine to promote her new film “Lee,” which is about model turned renowned war photographer Lee Miller, the Oscar-winning actress shared her thoughts about the true meaning of courage. Winslet said she doesn’t believe the word “brave” should be applied to women in entertainment who are comfortable in their own skin or choose not to wear makeup in public. “Kate is looking behind the scenes, much like Lee Miller looked behind the scenes.”And while Winslet said she’s mostly worked with male filmmakers, she said she doesn’t believe that has affected the work. “I’ve always played women who, hopefully, are real women,” Winslet said.

Most people don’t use mail the way they used to – if they send out mail at all. And, most of all, businesses still depend on the mail to help them reach customers and keep the economy going. A history older than AmericaThe postal service and the United States have grown side by side since before the country’s birth – quite literally. The band The Postal Service was an indie-pop darling near the turn of the century. While stamp prices have doubled in that time, most experts point the finger at technology instead.

Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Post Office Limited Paula Vennells (C) arrives to give evidence to the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry, in central London, on May 22, 2024. The scandal has been described at an ongoing public inquiry as "the worst miscarriage of justice in recent British legal history". The Post Office took 700 people to court between 1999 and 2015 based on faulty evidence resulting from central I.T. Questions remain over what Vennells and other executives knew, all while the Post Office continued to push for sub-postmaster prosecutions. Vennells joined at a time when the Post Office was losing significant amounts of money and was under pressure to improve its financial performance.

Watch “Apocalypse Now” (1979), “Full Metal Jacket” (1987) or “Platoon” (1986) and you should know what war really means. “Ungentlemanly Warfare” features a disreputable band of riff raff brought together for a super-secret mission. This summer, philatelists will have a chance to snag the rarest US stamp ever: the 1868 one-cent “Z-grill.”Interested? On June 14, the one-cent Z-grill will be put up for sale by Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, marking the first time the rare stamp has been on auction since 1998. Of the two known copies of the one-cent Z-grill, one is held by the New York Public Library. That leaves only one one-cent Z-grill available to private collectors. “There’s multiple stamps that’ll bring $500,000 or $750,000, but the (one-cent) Z-grill is the star of the show,” Shreve said.

It’s very much hand in hand,” said DeJoy, who acknowledged being impatient with the pace of change, including the rollout of electric vehicles. Those efficiency-driven changes will help the environment by reducing carbon emissions by eliminating wasteful activities, in addition to electric vehicles and other efforts. Last month, the Postal Service unveiled new EVs and charging stations at a new distribution center in Georgia, one of many updated sorting and delivery centers that are opening. The Postal Service plans to take delivery of 66,000 electric vehicles over five years. But not everyone is thrilled by the focus on electric vehicles.

The government — which owns the Post Office — has described the scandal as one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in British history. New York CNN —The US Postal Service lost $6.5 billion in its just-completed fiscal year, delivering a blow to the service’s hopes of a financial turnaround. The Postal Service had projected it would break even in the fiscal year that ended September 30, on its way to annual profits this year and going forward. The Postal Service reported that revenue from shipping and packages, now the largest segment of its business by revenue, edged up 1% to $31.6 billion, even as the volume fell by 2%. First-Class mail also brought in 2% more revenue, climbing to $24.5 billion, despite a 6% drop in volume. The Postal Service reported net income of $56 billion in the previous fiscal year but that was primarily due to the non-cash gain of nearly $57 billion from 2022 legislation that changd the way it accounted for its retiree health care expenses.

A United States Postal Service (USPS) mail delivery truck is seen in Queens, New York City, U.S., May 9, 2022. Postal Service on Tuesday reported a $6.5 billion net loss for the 12 months ending Sept. 30 with revenue down 0.4% to $78.2 billion as first-class mail fell to the lowest volume since 1968. The Postal Service said results were significantly affected by the impact of inflation on operating expenses. The net loss was also impacted by accounting for its underfunded retirements caused by actuarial revaluation and discount rate changes. First-class mail, used by most people to send letters and pay bills, is the highest revenue-generating mail class, accounting for $24.5 billion, or 31% of USPS 2023 revenue.

Google is making big changes to prevent Gmail spam

Google will make it harder for spammers to send messages to Gmail users, the company said Tuesday. The company said it will require emailers who send more than 5,000 messages per day to Gmail users to offer a one-click unsubscribe button in their messages. Google says it has signed up Yahoo to make the same changes, and they'll come into effect in February 2024. The moves highlight the ongoing fight between big tech companies and spammers who use open systems such as email to send fraudulent messages and annoy users. About half of all emails sent in 2022 were spam, according to an estimate from Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

Stamp prices are going up starting Sunday

New York CNN —The US Postal Service will increase prices on first-class mail stamps to 66 cents from 63 cents. The Postal Service said the hike was necessary to offset a rise in operating expenses. Surging prices have dented business across the globe over the past two years, in many cases pushing up workers’ wages and increasing the costs of doing business. “These price adjustments are needed to provide the Postal Service with much needed revenue,” the agency said in a statement. Domestic postcards will also increase from 48 cents to 51 cents, and international postcards from $1.45 to $1.50.

The Manila Central Post Office, one of the Philippine capital’s most historic buildings, was all but destroyed by fire overnight, officials said on Monday morning. The shell of the neo-Classical-style structure, which was built in 1926, was still standing. But Postmaster General Luis Carlos said the building had been completely gutted, “from the basement to the ground floor all the way up to the fifth floor.”“The structure is still there, but its ceiling has fallen down,” Mr. Carlos told reporters. Fire officials said they were trying to determine the cause of the blaze, which began in the basement on Sunday night. At least one person was hurt in the fire, investigators said.
