To the Editor:Re “A Homeless Crisis Is a Test of Portland’s Identity” (front page, July 29):Your article about homeless problems in Portland, Ore., was a slap in the face to a great city that is actually having a renaissance.
This became a great city because people here cared about community, historic preservation and good city planning.
I have been walking downtown for the past three years and have rarely felt uncomfortable.
We have vibrant museums and Portland State University.
Thousands attended the Starlight Parade in June, and downtown is often filled with people enjoying themselves.
