A fire that erupted from a Texas natural gas pipeline that was struck by a vehicle died down and was extinguished Thursday, the city of Deer Park said. A car struck the Energy Transfer pipeline on Monday and caused the fire, which sent a geyser of flame into the air and caused nearby homes to be evacuated, officials said. That burned vehicle and human remains were found Thursday, the city said. Evacuation orders had covered nearly 1,000 homes and businesses in La Porte, which is just to the east of Deer Park. The fire erupted around 10 a.m. Monday, and by Thursday night Energy Transfer said that it had extinguished, Deer Park said.

Eric Holcomb announced that Microsoft will be constructing a $1 billion data center in La Porte, Indiana. Another name that is due to see a boost from AI data center growth is WEC Energy. The tech giant already has a data center that is under construction in the area, which is expected to open in 2026. "Microsoft's first data center represents 1,000 [megawatts] of electricity load, or over 10% of WEC's current load in the state," wrote Morningstar analyst Andrew Bischof in May.

BEIJING — Local Chinese authorities have removed restrictions on Tesla cars after the company's China-made vehicles passed the country's data security requirements, the automaker said Sunday. Although Tesla's electric cars are some of the most popular vehicles in China, they have reportedly been banned from some government-related properties due to concerns about what data the U.S.-based automaker can collect. Tesla's press release did not specify which local authorities had removed restrictions on the cars. The Biden administration earlier this year announced a probe into whether imported cars from China pose national security risks due to their ability to potentially collect data about the U.S. and send it back to China. Tesla's vehicles were not the only ones that passed the data security rules.
