A grenade was found inside a man’s carry-on luggage at LaGuardia International Airport, according to the Transportation Security Administration. The passenger was going through security at the New York City airport on Monday when the weapon of war was discovered in his bag. It was determined to be a real, albeit inert, grenade, according to the TSA. He told TSA officers that he got the grenade as a gift from a museum. The passenger who had packed the grenade was allowed to continue on to his flight, the TSA said.

Ten people were injured and nearly 1,000 were evacuated after an escalator caught fire at Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning, airport officials said. The escalator, in Concourse C of Terminal 8, started emitting smoke around 7:15 a.m., according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport. The Fire Department and Port Authority police officers responded, and about 990 travelers were taken by bus to other areas of the terminal, according to the Port Authority. Eleven U.S. and international airlines, including American Airlines, British Airways and Japan Airways, use Terminal 8. American Airlines said that three of its 89 total departing flights from the airport on Wednesday had been canceled because of the evacuation.

Two firefighters died while working to extinguish a raging fire Wednesday aboard an Italian cargo ship that was loading automobiles at Port Newark in New Jersey, the authorities said. The firefighters “made an attempt to extinguish the fire and, because of the intense heat, they got pushed back out of the area where the initial fire was,” Chief Rufus Jackson of the Newark Fire Department said in a news conference early Thursday. "I started freaking out because so many people started getting up on me," Miles told the news outlet. However, law enforcement ultimately dismissed the charge against Miles following an investigation, the airport told Insider on Friday. Oct 18 (Reuters) - The unexpected appearance of a live snake on a plane caused some turbulence among business-class passengers aboard a United Airlines jet at the end of a flight from Florida to New Jersey. The reptile stowaway, identified as a harmless garter snake, turned up on United Airlines Flight 2038 from Tampa shortly after landing Monday afternoon at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. There were no injuries, no impact to airport operations, and the plane later departed Newark, she said. No mention was made by any of the parties involved as to how the snake might have gotten aboard a commercial airline flight. Monday's incident was not the first real-life instance of a serpentine creature hitching a ride aboard a commercial jet.
