An ex-GOP congressman told Playbook that DeSantis didn't speak to him for two years during hearings. "I was new to Congress, and he didn't introduce himself or even say hello," Trott said this week. Trott told the outlet that they sat beside each other during Foreign Affairs committee hearings. Trott told Playbook he eventually introduced himself to DeSantis, whom he said had sharp political instincts despite their limited personal interactions. I don't think [he] has that," Trott told Playbook.
WASHINGTON — Embattled Rep. George Santos is refusing to face the music, but he appears to be relishing his moment in the spotlight. The New York Republican and freshman fabulist, the subject of federal, state, local and international investigations, was spotted Wednesday night by NBC News smiling, laughing and taking dozens of selfies with patrons during karaoke night at a popular D.C. barbecue joint. “It’s bizarre.”Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., whose office is just down the hall from Santos’, suggested all that attention could benefit Santos. “You always know more than I do about myself.”Later that night, Santos strolled into Hill Country, where he spent more than an hour schmoozing and chatting up patrons. A Santos staffer belted “Build Me Up Buttercup.”Approached by NBC News at Hill Country, Santos said: “You’re not going to try to interview me.
The company has created "Semaform," a way to separate news and opinion in articles. Semafor, the hotly anticipated media startup that grabbed industry attention before it even launched, is finally here. Led by former Bloomberg Media CEO Justin Smith and former New York Times media columnist and BuzzFeed News editor-in-chief Ben Smith, the outlet began publishing Tuesday morning with the lofty ambition of "solving certain significant news consumer frustrations," Justin Smith told Insider. "We have a long runway through 2023 and moving into 2024 on a revenue front and a cost front," Justin Smith said. Overall, the target readership is "very much the news omnivore" and people who are "opinion leaders" in business, finance, and tech, Justin Smith said.
Rep. Jerry Nadler also reportedly pushed Democrats to have Trump's lawyers more involved. "It's unfair, and it's unprecedented, and it's unconstitutional," Nadler reportedly told Schiff, according to an excerpt from "Unchecked: The Untold Story Behind Congress's Botched Impeachments of Donald Trump." In the end, Schiff's House Intelligence Committee took the lead role in handling Trump's impeachment, a break from the historic tradition of the Judiciary Committee handling such proceedings. "I write the rules of my committee, not you," Nadler reportedly told his colleague once. Schiff, according to the book, retorted, "I don't really care about your resentment.
Rep. Liz Cheney told CNN she's "very worried" about election deniers running for office in 2022. 43 election-denying candidates are seeking statewide office in 27 states, one report found. "I think those people have all got to be defeated," Cheney said. Arizona, Michigan, and Alabama have such candidates running for all three of those offices in November. "That's obviously, fundamentally, a threat to the survival of the republic, and I think those people have all got to be defeated," Cheney said.
