CNN —Two people were killed and 10 others were injured in two shootings during a popular New Orleans second-line parade on Sunday, according to the New Orleans Police Department. They are 45 minutes apart from each other,” Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said during a Sunday evening news conference. “Approximately 45 minutes later, up on the bridge, we did have another outbreak of gunfire,” Kirkpatrick said. Police say it is still unclear whether the shootings are related because they occurred 45 minutes apart. The term “second line” refers to the people who follow the main brass band procession, the “first line.”“It’s a wonderful event … and we wanted to keep it a wonderful event,” she said.

Last year’s French soccer cup final saw some 3,000 police and 1,400 staff deployed, reports CNN affiliate BFMTV. This Thursday’s UEFA Nations League match between France and Israel will take place in the Stade de France, the centerpiece of Paris’ 2024 Olympic Games. The minister set an aggressive tone in his first months in office and his response to the Amsterdam attacks was no different. Just this week, the Israeli ambassador in Paris was summoned to the French foreign ministry after two French policemen were briefly detained in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem. Yet, in the light of recent events in Amsterdam, it is keen to show its commitment to protecting French Jews: Thursday’s match offers the perfect opportunity.

On October 23, Sawchak allegedly shot Moturi in the neck from his second-floor window. But the Newcomers Football Club, an impromptu team made up of asylum-seekers, has helped provide him with a joy that erases his stress. And they were looking for a place to play soccer – an almost universal cornerstone of their daily routines back home. Leonard had never worked with refugees or asylum-seekers before, and he had never played soccer. In the months since, the ad-hoc project has ballooned from an informal pick-up game to an organized club that competes with other New York teams, joining forces with another similar project started by co-organizer Avram Kline. The mixed practices help Newcomers FC members meet new people and practice their English, Leonard says.

CNN —A local law enforcement commissioner revealed during a House Homeland Security hearing on Tuesday stunning new details about the security failures that led to the near assassination of Donald Trump, raising more questions for the embattled US Secret Service. Paris told lawmakers about the communications between the Secret Service and local law enforcement who initially spotted Thomas Matthew Crooks, the would-be assassin. “That is my understanding,” Paris said, adding that the officers went searching with other local officers in the area. State Police then received a call and a text from the ESU about Crooks’ activity that they immediately relayed to Secret Service. State Police “verbally turned right around and gave it to the Secret Service,” Paris said.
