Pitchfork announced that its annual Chicago music festival would not return in 2025. In an announcement on social media and on its website, the music publication said it made the decision after assessing the rapidly evolving "music festival landscape." “For 19 years, Pitchfork Music Festival has been a celebration of music, art, and community—a space where memories were made, voices were amplified, and the shared love of music brought us all together." Voyager 1 has been using one of its two radio transmitters, called an X-band based on the frequency it utilizes, for decades. Our Universal line-skipping passes had a steeper price tag at $600 compared to the $180 we paid for Disney's equivalent service. Even so, our Universal tickets still cost about $200 less than the Disney ones. Absurd and comical rescue images that appear to have been made with artificial intelligence have sprung up on social media this week as Hurricane Milton hit Florida, a reaction to the earlier proliferation of more realistic fake images related to Hurricane Helene. But as technology has advanced, fake images generated by AI have continued to proliferate on the internet, at times making it easier for false information to spread online. Public officials even cautioned Floridians this week to beware of AI-generated images that falsely depict conditions on the ground. The inspiration for the hurricane rescue images meme format apparently stems from a viral post from a public official on X, who shared a fake image of a child crying while holding a puppy with a flooded backdrop amid Hurricane Helene, which some recirculated as if it were real. In one meme image posted by an X user, former President Donald Trump appears to be dropping a basket of puppies over a body of water.

CNN —Engineers at NASA have successfully fired up a set of thrusters Voyager 1 hasn’t used in decades to solve an issue that could keep the 47-year-old spacecraft from communicating with Earth from billions of miles away. Currently the farthest spacecraft from Earth, Voyager 1 is about 15 billion miles (24 billion kilometers) away. Earlier this year, engineers spotted an issue when the fuel tube inside one of Voyager’s thrusters became clogged. Engineers switched again to the trajectory correction thruster set in 2018 when the second set also appeared clogged. Once the spacecraft has exhausted this thruster set, Voyager 1’s remaining option is the other already clogged set of attitude propulsion thrusters.

Ganymede, the largest moon in the solar system, is even bigger than Mercury and the dwarf planet Pluto. The crater left behind on Ganymede was 25% the size of the Jupiter moon, according to the study. Understanding how the impact altered the moon could reveal insights into its intriguing internal structure, Hirata said. “I want to understand the origin and evolution of Ganymede and other Jupiter moons,” he said.

And this year, Broadway will be celebrating one for the ages. “Merrily We Roll Along,” a Stephen Sondheim show that has long been one of musical theater’s most storied flops, will cement its long-sought redemption on Sunday by winning the Tony Award for best musical revival, according to my annual survey of Tony voters. This week I have connected, by phone or by email, with just over a quarter of the 836 Tony voters, and asked how they were voting. The survey is not a scientific poll; some voters haven’t even cast their ballots yet.
