Business Insider secured access to an internal Tesla pay database, covering nearly 100,000 employees as of December 2021. Tesla offers lower base salaries than its tech and automotive peers but offers substantial stock grants. Nine current and former people in engineering and sales said that Tesla's stock grants make it easier to accept lower base salaries. To get a sense of which employees were more likely to take home large grants, BI broke up stock grants based on job category. So far, stock grants have "proven to be better than cash in your pocket."

Attorneys for Elon Musk filed suit this week against the law firm that represented Twitter when Musk was trying to take the company private last year, claiming the firm charged too much for its work. The lawsuit says Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen, and Katz, which was Twitter's firm prior to Musk's acquisition, racked up a $90 million "last minute" legal bill. Wachtell represented Twitter after Musk reneged on his initial offer to take Twitter private for $44 billion. The law firm helped close the deal in November 2022, and was paid that $90 million fee for its work securing the transaction, which was tendered at a significant premium to Twitter's public market valuation. Twitter sued Musk for not honoring his commitment to the company's shareholders, and Musk eventually relented, purchasing Twitter at the agreed upon price.

Since then, Sweeney has opened up a new personal account, as well as Twitter accounts that track Musk's private jet and Gov. Twitter suspended the accounts of PlainSite and its founder Aaron Greenspan, a prolific Tesla and Elon Musk critic, on Tuesday afternoon. PlainSite is an online database that makes state and federal court filings and other public records available to users for free. Greenspan has meticulously tracked litigation by or against companies mostly in the U.S., including Tesla, Twitter (which Musk took private in an acquisition last year), as well as competitors GM , Meta and a myriad of others. The suspension stands at odds with public statements from Twitter's executive chairman and CTO Elon Musk, and newly-appointed CEO Linda Yaccarino. Hothi had alleged the Tesla chief defamed him in an email claiming Hothi "almost killed Tesla employees." Elon Musk is settling a lawsuit filed by a Tesla critic who had accused the electric carmaker's chief executive officer of defaming him. Diaz, a Black man, was hired as a contract worker at Tesla in 2015 through a staffing agency. Diaz and Tesla sought a retrial to decide damages after Judge William H. Orrick reduced the amount to $15 million. "No Black man in 2015 should ever be subjected," Alexander said, "to this plantation mentality workplace." The plaintiffs asked the jury to consider punitive damages around $150 million for Tesla, and to award Diaz $6.3 million in past non-economic damages, and $2 million in future non-economic damages. As CNBC has previously reported, where it is legal to do so, Tesla has compelled employees to agree to mandatory arbitration.

Elon Musk's Twitter was sued again in California this week for alleged failure to pay a vendor. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO led a $44 billion buyout of Twitter, which closed around October 27, 2022. According to a Platformer report on Thursday, Twitter suddenly cut off employees' access to Slack this week after failing to pay a bill. In the newest complaint, filed in California Superior Court in San Francisco, Writer says that Twitter failed to pay a bill for the relatively humble amount of $113,856. This week, he wrote on Twitter, "Say what you want about me, but I acquired the world's largest non-profit for $44B lol."
