As Florida recovers from the tangled seaweed blob plaguing its coasts, nature may have something else in store for the state: dust from the Sahara. Saharan dust is moving across the Atlantic Ocean and could reach South Florida, resulting in hotter days and less rain, meteorologists said. As of Saturday afternoon, the dust was near the Bahamas, about 300 miles east of Florida. The Weather Service does not track the dust’s speed as it travels, she said. The dust could arrive in South Florida by this week, said Ping Zhu, an earth and environment professor at Florida International University.

SHANGHAI/SINGAPORE, April 20 (Reuters) - China kept its benchmark lending rates unchanged for the eighth straight month on Thursday in line with expectations, as the economic recovery reduced the need for any immediate monetary support. The one-year loan prime rate (LPR) was kept at 3.65%, while the five-year LPR was unchanged at 4.30%. The medium-term lending facility (MLF) rate now serves as a guide to the LPR. Markets mostly use the medium-term policy rate as a indication of likely changes to the lending benchmarks. "There might be cuts to deposit rate and 5-year LPR, so as to lower funding costs and support long-term business loans."
SVB collapse could add to China stock investors' anxiety

SHANGHAI, March 12 (Reuters) - China stock investors, already disillusioned by Beijing's lower-than-expected economic growth target for the year, will be further disheartened by the shock collapse of U.S. lender SVB Financial Group, market participants said. The market mood could be damped further following Friday's sudden collapse of start-up focused lender SVB (SIVB.O), which stirred heated discussion over the weekend in China about its fallout. But many Chinese tech start-ups, especially those with dollar funding, have opened U.S. accounts at SVB. He is cautious about tech stocks that could be impacted by US-China frictions. Still, domestic A-shares will likely outperform offshore China stocks, which are more vulnerable to potential spillover from the SVB collapse, analysts say.

China's economy may have already seen the worst of pressures in the final month of 2022, JPMorgan's Zhu said. He added the weakness was the result of uncertainty surrounding the nation's zero-Covid policy and a mass infection that followed its steps of reopening.
