Postal Service mailbox in Phoenix, Arizona, was set on fire at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time Thursday morning, damaging several ballots and other pieces of mail, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. McDade originally said Thursday that approximately 20 ballots were damaged, but Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes later said that five ballots were affected. McDade said authorities with the fire and police departments are investigating the incident and that the Postal Inspector took possession of the damaged mail. CNN —A 2-year-old child died after a strong gust of wind sent the bounce house he was in airborne and into a neighboring lot in central Arizona, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said. The toddler, Bodhi Naaf, is the son of Phoenix firefighter Karl Naaf, according to the United Phoenix Firefighters Local 493 union. “This appears to have been a tragic accident,” Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lauren Reimer said in a statement. In its news release, the sheriff’s office did not say whether the bounce house in this case was staked and anchored. A 2022 study by the American Meteorological Society reported 132 wind-related bounce house incidents worldwide from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2021.

CNN —Nikola, a startup company that makes electric and hydrogen-powered semi trucks, said in a tweet Friday morning that several of its trucks had been damaged in a fire at the company’s Phoenix, Arizona headquarters. “Foul play is suspected as a vehicle was seen in the area of the affected trucks just prior to the incident and an investigation is underway,” the tweet said. A Nikola spokesperson reached by CNN said more information would be released as it became available. The first report of a fire was around 4:30 am MT, Phoenix Fire Department captain Todd Keller said. The trucks were among more than 30 stored at the headquarters facility, Keller said.
