CNN —Nearly a hundred aid trucks were looted in southern Gaza on Saturday in what UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, has described as “one of the worst” incidents of its kind. Of the 109 trucks carrying food supplies for UNRWA and the World Food Programme from the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, 97 trucks were “lost” in the looting, UNRWA told CNN in a statement Monday. Drivers were forced to unload trucks at gun point, aid workers were injured, and vehicles were damaged extensively, it said. In a report Monday that cited Gaza’s interior ministry, the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV channel claimed Gaza security forces had killed more than 20 people involved in looting aid trucks, though it did not specifically mention Saturday’s incident. Israel insists however that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza has risen and that it is “working tirelessly” to get aid into the enclave.

As Israel faced a U.S. deadline to ramp up access to aid in Gaza on Tuesday, leading humanitarians were warning that only a fraction of the desperately needed help was reaching the Palestinian enclave. An average of just over 30 trucks a day have been let into Gaza in recent weeks, representing “just over six percent of the daily needs,” according to Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the United Nations agency assisting Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. “What is being allowed into Gaza is not enough,” he wrote in a post on X on Friday. The United States announced Tuesday that there will be no significant policy shift towards Israel, at the conclusion of a 30-day U.S. deadline for improvement in humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. We believe that, had it not been for U.S. intervention, these changes may not have ever taken place," said Patel. The demands and the deadline were laid out in a joint letter from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, delivered Oct. 13. If Israel wants to continue to qualify for foreign military financing under U.S. law, Blinken and Austin wrote, at least 350 trucks per day of aid must be allowed to enter the war-ravaged Gaza Strip. The letter also called on Israel to provide heightened security for humanitarian sites, and an increase in the number of humanitarian pauses to its military operations.

Israel's parliament voted Monday to ban the operations of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, the main humanitarian aid agency operating in Gaza. "This is the latest in the ongoing campaign to discredit UNRWA and delegitimize its role towards providing human-development assistance and services to #Palestine Refugees," Lazzarini wrote. UNRWA is a U.N. aid organization established in 1949 to provide aid and protection to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Some Israeli critics have said that the agency perpetuates a false narrative that Palestinians are refugees, which Lazzarini referenced in his statement. And U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was declared “persona non grata" by Israel’s foreign minister, Israel Katz, and was banned from entering Israel.

Creator-economy startup Jellysmack is reorganizing and cutting some staff, Business Insider is exclusively reporting. "Jellysmack is making organizational adjustments to better align resources with key areas of growth," a representative told BI in an email. While we are scaling back certain operations in our Creator Program on Meta due to the opacity of their new monetization model, we remain dedicated to supporting our key creator partners and ensuring they continue to benefit from our platform." Storied Swiss watch maker Patek Philippe announced its first new collection in 25 years this week, dubbed the Cubitus line. The new collection comes at a time when luxury watch prices have largely stabilized, fueled by strong demand. Patek Philippe's new collection also includes new cufflinks, designed to match the watches with a white-gold frame that reflect the case's shape. Patek Philippe, founded in 1839, is often referred to as one of "The Holy Trinity" in watch making, along with Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin. The brand's last new collection before the Cubitus line was back in 1999 when it released the Twenty~4 design.
