PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kelly Oubre Jr. wanted to set the record straight — yes, a vehicle struck him as he walked near his home and the driver fled. Yes, he suffered a traumatic injury and no — he doesn't care for anyone who questioned his account of what happened on that Philadelphia street last month. “This was and is a very traumatic situation for me and my family,” Oubre told reporters Monday at the 76ers' complex in New Jersey. The car, described as silver in color, fled, Oubre told authorities. Oubre said he's “ready to hoop” and rejoin the 76ers (12-7) as they chase a top spot in the Eastern Conference.

I’ll say straight off: It’s not architecture for the ages, but it’s an interesting, high-end model of an urban quad and a good example of how struggling downtowns are finding a glimmer of hope as satellite campuses. In design jargon, the term is “adaptive reuse,” which is the same story as turning empty office towers into apartment buildings. Universities like Hopkins are not the ultimate cure-all for what now ails downtowns across America, though, especially since they don’t pay property taxes like for-profit companies. Downtowns are still struggling. WeWork, which presently rents more office space than any other company in the United States, filed for bankruptcy this month.

But now, two studies released Tuesday suggest that a recently developed eye-tracking tool could help clinicians diagnose children as young as 16 months with autism – and with more certainty. She was not involved in the new studies, but her research focuses on early diagnosis of autism. The children were enrolled in the study between April 2018 and May 2019, and the eye-tracking tool was included in the assessments. Among the children, 335 had an autism diagnosis that their clinicians were “certain” of without using the eye-tracking tool. “There remains work to be done before an eye-tracking test is used in clinical practice.

PHILADELPHIA—This city’s downtown is showing fresh signs of renewed economic vitality, buoyed by strong housing demand, hospitality-sector growth and a return-to-work push led by employers such as Comcast Corp., despite ongoing concerns about crime. Cities across the country have struggled to rebound from the affects of the Covid-19 pandemic, when a shift to working from home hollowed out many downtown cores. Residents, business owners, workers and local commerce officials say they see clear improvement in Philadelphia’s Center City as the pandemic begins to turn a corner into its fourth year.
