Brand new Lucid electric cars sit parked in front of a Lucid Studio showroom in San Francisco on May 24, 2024. Lucid Group slightly beat Wall Street's third-quarter expectations as the electric carmaker cuts costs ahead of plans to begin consumer production of a new SUV by the end of this year. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson described the quarter as a "landmark" for the company, citing record deliveries of 2,781 units as well as cost-cutting measures. The company reaffirmed plans to produce roughly 9,000 vehicles this year, which would mark a 6.8% increase compared to 8,428 units in 2023. Lucid said it had $5.16 billion in total liquidity to end the quarter.

Executives focused on hiring told Business Insider that the newfound clarity is already making some employers more willing to post jobs. "Our phone was basically ringing off the hook with companies looking to hire," Lief Larson, CEO of Salesfolks, a staffing firm focused on sales roles, told BI. "We're seeing a pretty healthy number of roles planning to be posted in January, probably more than we even expected," Volberg told BI. A postelection rush to hireAaron Cleavinger, a managing partner at Murdoch Mason Executive Search Group, told BI that he's been "inundated" with new search requests from clients since the election. Electric vehicle startup Lucid Group is counting on its upcoming Gravity SUV to assist the automaker in a "significant increase" in sales volumes to narrow the company's losses, according to CEO Peter Rawlinson. The Gravity is Lucid's second vehicle following the Air sedan, which the luxury EV manufacturer has been selling in relatively small numbers since late 2021. Lucid on Tuesday said customer ordering for the first Gravity model, called the Grand Touring, will open Nov. 7 on the carmaker's website. Other models are expected to follow, including an entry-level $79,900 Gravity Touring trim late next year. "We believe there's about a 6-to-1 ratio … for the SUV over sedan, and that's going to put us in a very strong position."

Electric vehicles, trade, tariffs, China, emissions regulations and labor are among the top issues automakers are monitoring, according to industry executives and policy experts. Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks as he visits a campaign office in Hamtramck, Michigan, U.S. October 18, 2024. Republicans, led by Trump, have largely condemned EVs, saying that they are being forced upon consumers and that they will ruin the U.S. automotive industry. The Summary Four new presumed cases of bird flu in farmworkers in Washington state bring the U.S. total to 31. Washington is the sixth state to report human cases of bird flu, which has spread rampantly in wild birds, poultry and cattle. Six health workers exposed to the patient reported respiratory symptoms. Webby said the virus’ spread in cows for the past 10 months has raised experts’ level of concern because cows are mammals and interact with humans frequently. Itle said cases in poultry were not unexpected in Washington state, because migrating birds passed through during summer and early fall.

DETROIT — Investors misinterpreted a public offering last week by Lucid Group that raised roughly $1.75 billion — and led to the stock's worst daily performance in nearly three years — CEO Peter Rawlinson told CNBC. It also should alleviate worries that the company would issue a "going concern" disclosure regarding its operations, he said. As a Nasdaq company, we have to avoid a going concern. And a going concern is issued within 12 months of your financial runway," Rawlinson said Monday from the company's newly opened offices in suburban Detroit. That included more than $4 billion in cash, cash equivalents and investment balances.

This comes two weeks after Hurricane Helene significantly damaged communities like Asheville, North Carolina, hundreds of miles inland, that were seemingly immunized from the worst effects of climate change. Treating climate change as a national security problem is not a liberal position but a hardheaded realist one. This framing of national security also endured after the 9/11 attacks. After Hurricane Milton, Americans should ask themselves: Are they safer now from threats like climate change and pandemics? And if not, isn’t it time for a real discussion of what truly constitutes national security to begin?

Yet despite the atrocious conditions, the fixture went ahead as planned, and after 90 minutes of less-than-inspiring football, England had beaten Czechoslovakia 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. More importantly, however, was the fact that Anderson had made history as the first Black player to represent the England national team. Up and down the country, Anderson says that racist abuse formed an ugly backdrop to some of his football career. “It’s one of those things we (Black players) all had to get through if we wanted to make a career,” he says. Whether it be on the playground, whether it be at home with nieces and nephews, I was always playing football.

But just four months later, the company hired G.F. back to a contractor position after he apparently slipped through the cracks in the hiring process, the lawsuit says. A reduction in the Fed's benchmark rate would bring relief to the $22.5 trillion US commercial real estate market, which was shaken by a series of interest rate increases beginning in March 2022. AdvertisementThe increases diminished commercial property values, raised mortgage defaults, and triggered the sector's worst downturn since the financial crisis more than 15 years ago. "We're looking at a very good 2025 and beyond," Mark Rose, the CEO of the real estate services firm Avison Young, said. What comes next could hinge on who gets to oversee labor relations after the election. The National Labor Relations Board — which polices unfair labor practices and mediates worker-management disputes — has become an aggressive union booster under Biden. While the agency’s policies typically shift depending on who’s in the White House, the change has been pronounced, labor experts and former NLRB staffers say. Before joining the law firm in 2022, White worked for a decade at a regional NLRB field office under the Obama, Trump and Biden administrations. Last year, the NLRB overturned a 50-year precedent, requiring employers to recognize a union if most workers sign authorization cards for one.

How Anti-Immigrant Riots Flared in the U.K.

After more than a week of sporadic far-right violence, a fever seemed to ease in Britain on Wednesday night. During the previous days, racist and anti-immigrant rioting had flared in more than a dozen towns and cities across England and in Northern Ireland. The spark for the rioting was anger over a knife attack that killed three young girls and falsehoods that spread online about the perpetrator. Those participating in the riots have remained a small and strongly unpopular fringe, disowned even by politicians who seek to channel broader public misgivings about immigration. His assault killed three girls: Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9; Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7; and Bebe King, 6.

New York CNN —A class action lawsuit filed Tuesday alleges that RTX Corporation, the multinational aerospace and defense systems giant formerly known as Raytheon Technologies, has been discriminating against job seekers who are 40 years or older. The ads that refer to “Recent Graduate Positions” indicate that applicants should either have graduated from college or graduate school very recently or have no more than 12 or 24 months of related work experience. While the positions may be lower level, they are not necessarily low paying, with salary ranges that can run north of $100,000. We believe these claims are entirely without merit and we will actively defend our hiring practices,” company spokesman Chris Johnson told CNN. Between 2019 and 2023, Goldstein applied to at least seven of Raytheon’s recent graduate positions for which he met all the qualifications save those requiring the newness of his degrees or the short duration of work experience.

Despite an interest rate cut expected this week, profits at a handful of major European banks will remain robust, according to Berenberg. The European Central Bank appears on course to cut interest rates this week, the first reduction since 2019, despite a higher-than-expected inflation print . However, European banks underperformed their global peers over the past decade as the European Central Bank kept interest rates below or near zero until 2022. The investment bank's analyst also pointed out that European banks are currently trading at a 20% discount to their long-run average valuation despite improvements in their balance sheets and returns. According to Berenberg, historical data shows that European banks only traded below current valuations for 6% of the time between 1988 and 2020.
