And now, as Trump continues to fill out the upper echelons of his transition and administration, some key donors appear to be in the fray. Chris Wright, the Liberty Energy CEO tapped to be Trump’s energy secretary, gave the campaign and affiliated committees more than $235,000. Marc Rowan, the billionaire CEO of Apollo Global Management, gave $1 million to Right for America, a pro-Trump super PAC. The super PAC also ran a controversial program that gave away $1 million checks to swing-state voters who signed Musk's petition. (His father, Charles Kushner, who was pardoned by Trump, gave that same amount, plus another $1.2 million to a pro-Trump super PAC).

Exercising at specific times of day could lower colorectal cancer risk, a new study found. Colorectal cancer rates have fallen since the '80s, but have risen in under-55s by 1 to 2% yearly since the mid-'90s. Previous studies have found that people who exercise regularly have a lower colorectal cancer risk than those who don't. After five years, 529 of the participants were diagnosed with colorectal cancer, also known as bowel cancer. "Every movement counts for reducing colorectal cancer risk, meaning that doing any amount of physical activity is better than none," Orange said.

And that massive total doesn't include fundraising by the main pro-Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., which will file its fundraising reports by Sunday. Adelson gave $95 million to Preserve America, a super PAC she’s almost entirely funded, during the third fundraising quarter, after previously giving the group $5 million in the prior quarter. Right for America, another pro-Trump group, raised $28 million last quarter — with multimillion-dollar checks from Andreesen, Horowitz and Perlmutter as well as Perlmutter's wife, Lara. The super PAC has spent heavily on the presidential race as well as on the Wisconsin Senate and Maine 2nd Congressional District campaigns. Harris has plenty of super PAC backup, too: Future Forward (known as FF PAC) had raised $200 million through August, while MAGA Inc. had raised $280 million.

Deep-pocketed Republicans donors also tried to close the gap by boosting a GOP super PAC working to seize the Senate majority. America PAC has taken on a critical supporting role for the Trump campaign, according to its independent expenditure filings, which cover some spending beyond September 30. Another leading pro-Trump super PAC, Restoration PAC, also reported a huge haul from a single major donor. Mason Morfit, Salesforce board member and co-CEO of activist investor ValueAct, has increased his stake in Marc Benioff's software firm to just under $1 billion, acquiring $99 million worth of shares earlier this week, just days after the company reported its first revenue miss since 2006. The trade was disclosed in a regulatory filing Thursday, sending Salesforce shares up around 3.5% on the news in morning trading. The other activists eyeing Salesforce at the time included Elliott Management, Dan Loeb's Third Point, and Starboard Value. Earlier this year, Salesforce's widely reported pursuit of data management firm Informatica sent shares see-sawing before the putative target said it was not considering a sale. Salesforce shares briefly eclipsed their previous 2021 highs earlier this year, but have since given back those gains and are down 4% year-to-date.

Nearly two months after losing an epic corporate battle to get on the board of the Walt Disney Company, Nelson Peltz is no longer an investor in the entertainment company. Mr. Peltz, the billionaire head of the hedge fund Trian Fund Management, controlled about $3.5 billion in Disney stock, a vast majority of it owned by Ike Perlmutter, a former chairman of Marvel Entertainment. Mr. Peltz has now sold his portion of those shares, a person familiar with the investment said, requesting anonymity to discuss confidential matters. By selling his shares, Mr. Peltz is seemingly removing a thorn in Disney’s side. Mr. Peltz, an activist investor, began criticizing Disney’s management under Robert A. Iger, the chief executive, early last year, pointing to the company’s streaming strategy, lagging stock price and succession planning.

Other VP contenders at the weekend meeting included Stefanik, Scott and North Dakota Gov. This may help to explain why some influential Trump donors are especially wary of Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Rubio, Stefanik, Scott and Burgum have all privately been pitched to Trump as top prospects with close ties to top business leaders. Those ties could bolster Trump's fundraising operation if one of them is chosen as his running mate, according to people familiar with the matter. Burgum could even help to self-fund Trump's campaign, just as he did for his own Republican primary run for president.

Disney CEO Bob Iger plans to limit the number of Marvel films and TV shows released each year. The decision follows underperformance and criticism of the quality of Marvel content. AdvertisementDisney CEO Bob Iger's turn-around tour continues, and he let us in on the plan for what is arguably the House of Mouse's most successful IP: Marvel. In Disney's first earnings call since successfully fending off a proxy battle from Nelson Peltz — and former Marvel Entertainment chairman Ike Perlmutter — Iger delineated the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney fended off the activist investor Nelson Peltz for the second time in two years, as its shareholders rejected his effort to win two seats on its board. The House of Mouse claimed a “substantial” margin of victory, after a bitterly fought contest with Peltz and his major backer, the former Marvel chair Ike Perlmutter. Based on preliminary results from Wednesday’s annual investor meeting, Disney’s board candidates won the backing of 75 percent of individual shareholders, an outsize investor base. But like any good Disney tale, the board fight provided a series of lessons for the future — for companies and activists alike. That included cost-cutting efforts, an investment in the video game giant Epic Games and a shake-up in the struggling movie division.

If you had the opportunity to hear activist investor Nelson Peltz, the defeated candidate for the Disney board, you did not get a definitive answer, as much as I pressed. In my CNBC interview with Peltz on Thursday, he assured us that he would be back if Iger didn't deliver on his promises. Iger talked about the board's succession committee, which former Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman and now Disney board member, is on. They're confident that they'll pick the right person at the right time," Iger said on CNBC . I most feared the blowout in Disney stock in a fit of pique and right now I am not seeing that.

Trian claims Disney's board has failed to generate sufficient returns in recent years as subscription streaming losses have mounted and traditional TV subscribers have declined. Early vote countBoth Disney and Trian received support from influential shareholders ahead of Wednesday's meeting. Roughly one-third of Disney's shareholders are retail shareholders, who historically vote in small numbers in annual meetings. The arrangement still raised questions about ValueAct's support for the company and whether Disney's board should have disclosed the prior relationship. Two competing slates of board seats are now up for a vote against Disney’s. Peltz has criticized Disney’s recent theatrical flops and said the company should reach “Netflix-like margins” with its Disney+ streaming service, among other issues. If Peltz is successful, he and Rasulo could gain up to two seats on the board, displacing Disney’s picks. More than 35% of Disney’s shares are held by these individuals, who could seriously sway the vote. The influential advisory firms Institutional Shareholder Service and Egan-Jones have also thrown their support behind Peltz for at least one seat on the board.

DisneyDisney has struggled to return to the lofty box office records of 2019 — and that may have helped open the door for its recent troubles with activist Nelson Peltz. Just four years ago, the studio had seven billion-dollar films, which contributed to a global box office haul of more than $13.2 billion. Sony produced and distributed "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which made $1.9 billion, although Disney's Marvel Studios did serve as a co-producer. "People go to watch a movie or a show to be entertained," Peltz said in recent interview with The Financial Times. Peltz has also taken particular issue with Disney's failed succession plans and what he's described as a disjointed streaming strategy.

In 2015, Nelson Peltz's Trian Partners was defeated in an activist campaign against chemical firm DuPont , largely because the top three institutional shareholders voted against his slate. Nearly a decade later, those same institutional investors — Vanguard, State Street and BlackRock — are the three largest shareholders in Disney . Former Marvel chairman Ike Perlmutter has entrusted Peltz with his 33 million Disney shares, the bulk of the activist's 1.8% stake. Vanguard is the largest holder with 8% of outstanding Disney shares. In 2021, for example, 63% of Disney shareholders voted their shares, according to data analyzed by 13D Monitor.
