CNN —The Federal Aviation Administration says an air traffic controller’s instructions kept an American Airlines flight from hitting mountains near Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii. The agency is investigating the incident on American flight 298 just after takeoff, bound for Los Angeles early Wednesday morning. “An air traffic controller instructed American Airlines Flight 298 to perform an expedited climb after the crew did not make the assigned turn while departing from Honolulu International Airport,” the FAA says. “The controller’s actions ensured the aircraft remained safely above nearby terrain.”Audio from LiveATC.net captures the Honolulu air traffic controller telling American 298 to “expedite your climb … through terrain” and to turn right. As I see other generations of music lovers say music was so much better when they were younger, I wondered why. “It’s not that music was better when (we) were younger; it’s that music elicits very, very strong emotions,” said Dr. Rita Aiello, a music psychologist at New York University who examines how people process music and how music and memories shape each other. “Music is episodic,” said Dr. Robert Cutietta, a professor of music at the University of Southern California. A 2022 replication of the latter study in Marketing Letters: A Journal of Research in Marketing found that a person’s music preference peaks as young as 17. Colorectal cancer rates have fallen since the '80s, but have risen in under-55s by 1 to 2% yearly since the mid-'90s. Previous studies have found that people who exercise regularly have a lower colorectal cancer risk than those who don't. After five years, 529 of the participants were diagnosed with colorectal cancer, also known as bowel cancer. "Every movement counts for reducing colorectal cancer risk, meaning that doing any amount of physical activity is better than none," Orange said.

Search interest for "Travel Tuesday" rose more than 500% from 2021 to 2023, according to a report published by McKinsey & Company on Thursday. Searches are highest among American and Canadian consumers, but interest is also rising in Australia, the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Spain, according to McKinsey. "European travel companies can anticipate the possibility that Travel Tuesday will become a growing phenomenon in their region," McKinsey's report notes. Searches for "Cyber Monday" are far greater than "Travel Tuesday," but interest in the former is declining, it showed. "But unlike some of the impulse purchases consumers make on Black Friday, travel bookings can require more planning."

The Southern Taurids, the first branch of the Taurid meteors showers, will be optimally visible after midnight early Tuesday. “An advantage with (the Taurids) is that they do tend to produce bigger, brighter (meteors) compared (with) other meteor showers. The Southern and Northern Taurid meteor showers will be visible almost everywhere in the world except Antarctica, Schmoll said, as long as the constellation Taurus is visible in the sky. Every few years, the Taurid showers see an increase in the rates of meteors produced, often called the Taurid “swarm,” such as the higher rates created in 2022. This heightened activity is usually seen every three or seven years, according to the American Meteor Society.
